Days after revealing England Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad, the England and Wales Cricket Board has decided to up the training regime by arranging a special programme for the cricketers.
As per a recent report, the ECB have organised a training camp for the Women’s cricket team with the British Army ahead of the tournament. This means that the 15-strong group will be unavailable to represent their counties this weekend.
British Army To Shape T20 World Cup Squad’s Strength
Practising with the armies has been a regime that has been followed by many other countries, like Pakistan. Earlier, the England men's cricket team also took part in boxing matches and long hikes in the forest before the 2010-11 men's Ashes campaign.
This further celebrates these off-cricket activities to boost a team’s mental freshness and preparedness ahead of a major tournament.
Similarly, the British Army training for the England Women's Cricket Team ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 should play out as a refresher as well as a hard-borne challenge for the squad to better shape their decision-making skills.
“The training camp will strengthen their decision-making, resilience, and ability to deliver high performance when the pressure is turned up”, the ECB management told BBC Sport.
How Army Training Will Help The T20 World Cup 2026 Squad?
It will be a field trip for the team with the British Army at an undisclosed location in the United Kingdom for confidential purposes.
This training also comes a week before the team's first international game of the summer, where they are set to play the first of three one-day internationals against New Zealand starting from Sunday, May 10.

England and Wales Cricket Board's managing director of women's cricket, Clare Connor, was happy to send the team to the army training regime, while exclaiming that the learnings the players will take will definitely help them perform better in the upcoming tournament.
"We are extremely lucky to be able to send our newly selected World Cup squad into one of the best high-performance environments in the world," Clare Connor said.
"I'm confident that what the players will experience and learn over the next few days will be priceless when it comes to performing in some of the pressure moments that a home World Cup will undoubtedly bring," added Connor.
Evidently, England have failed to win any of the six World Cups that were held across formats since their mega victory at home in 2017. Hence, this decision to train with the British Army is likely to make an impact on the squad.
ENG Women To Inaugurate T20 World Cup 2026 Campaign
England women will begin their campaign on June 12 against Sri Lanka women to kick off the tournament at Birmingham. Their next match will be against Ireland women on June 16, followed by matches against Scotland women, West Indies women, and New Zealand women to conclude their group stage fixtures.
After the group stage concludes, the first semi-final will be played on June 30 at The Oval, followed by the second semi-final on July 2 at the same venue. The final will be played at the iconic Lord's ground on July 5 to conclude the T20 World Cup 2026 campaign.
