In a significant development, the BCCI has penalised New Zealand fast bowler Kyle Jamieson for wildly celebrating Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's dismissal in the RR Vs DC IPL 2026 match.
Led by Axar Patel, Delhi Capitals swatted aside Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets, with KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka powering them to a historic run chase.
Batting first, the Royals posted a massive total of 225 runs, riding on Riyan Parag's sensational 50-ball 90. However, the Capitals' batting unit fired on all cylinders, with Rahul and Nissanka's power-packed knocks helping them get past the finish line.
However, besides the exploits from the batters of both teams, an incident that grabbed the attention of fans was Kyle Jamieson's angry celebration after getting the prized scalp of Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
The fast bowler's gesture didn't go unnoticed by the BCCI, as the Indian cricket board punished him after the match.
BCCI punishes Kyle Jamieson for wild celebration against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi
The incident happened in the second over of the Royals' innings after Riyan Parag won the toss and elected to bat.
After conceding a boundary, Kyle Jamieson came around the wicket and bowled an in-swinging delivery that breached Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's defence and shattered the timber.
It was a yorker and came into Sooryavanshi, who failed to tackle the swing and missed the ball completely. Considering he's in red-hot form, the southpaw's wicket was crucial for the touring party.
Therefore, considering the importance of the breakthrough, Kyle Jamieson aggressively ran towards the 15-year-old batter and gave him a brutal send-off as soon as he dismissed Sooryavanshi.

The match referee found him guilty of violating Article 2.5 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which includes any language, action or gesture used by a Player and directed towards a batter upon his/her dismissal which has the potential to provoke an aggressive reaction from the dismissed batter, whether or not any reaction results, or which could be considered to disparage or demean the dismissed batter, regardless of whether the batter him/herself feels disparaged or demeaned (in other words, a ‘send-off’).
Therefore, the BCCI took strict action against Kyle Jamieson, sanctioning him with one demerit point after the match concluded. The DC fast bowler was also given a warning, although no financial sanction was imposed on him for his on-field conduct.
Kyle Jamieson bowls an expensive spell against RR
Despite dismissing Vaibhav Sooryavanshi early in the innings, Jamieson finished his spell with middling numbers. The New Zealand speedster went for 48 runs in his four-over spell, turning out to be the second-most expensive bowler from his team against Rajasthan Royals.
Overall, the right-arm seamer has played two matches, scalping two wickets for DC at an abysmal economy of 12.86 in the IPL 2026.
