The Indian team management has been ruthless ever since they won the T20 World Cup 2026. First, they removed Suryakumar Yadav from the side, their title-winning captain, and replaced him with Shreyas Iyer, and then Sanju Samson faced the axe as the batter was dropped from the playing XI after three failures.
After facing a lot of backlash for not selecting Vaibhav Sooryavanshi in the playing XI, the Gautam Gambhir-led coaching team picked the youngster for the second T20I, and he, too, was given just three chances as Sooryavanshi was dropped for the series finale.
The batter had three successive failures, and the team management didn’t show any patience as Sanju Samson once again replaced him in the main XI for the 5th T20I.
Sooryavanshi heartbroken as captain Shreyas Iyer drops him for 5th T20I
The decision to drop the 15-year-old youngster came as a surprise to many since the teenager was expected to be given a longer rope. However, that didn’t happen as Samson was picked to replace him in the playing XI for the 5th T20I.
Ahead of the India vs England 5th T20I, visuals showed Team India practising together before the start of the play, but there was an image that broke everyone’s heart. Sooryavanshi looked dejected, as if he was not expecting to be dropped from the playing XI.
The 15-year-old star quietly sat near the boundary ropes, all alone. Normally, the teenager has always been in a jolly mood before a cricket game, but on Saturday, he had his hand on his head, and the southpaw was almost holding back his tears.
Why Vaibhav Sooryavanshi was dropped from the IND Vs ENG 5th T20I?
Ideally, Sooryavanshi should have been given the entire UK tour to prove his mettle. He should have debuted against Ireland, but for some reason, the team management derailed it, as he was handed his debut cap in the IND Vs ENG 2nd T20I.

England bowlers came up with a clear game plan, and they executed it to perfection. Led by Jofra Archer, the English bowlers targeted Suryavanshi with hard-length deliveries, and the plan worked as the southpaw only scored 14, 13, and 15 runs in the three innings that he played.
While the youngster played a couple of delightful strokes and struck a few maximums, he had no Plan B when things got tough, and run-scoring became difficult.
Moreover, India needed a right-handed batter in the top seven, and someone had to be sacrificed as Sooryavanshi’s place was snatched.
Where will Sooryavanshi next be seen in action after England series?
The UK tour is over for Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, and his journey ended with just 42 runs in three matches, and a great learning curve for the 15-year-old star.
Team India will now play an ODI series against England, and after that, the Men in Blue will travel to Zimbabwe in a three-match T20I series.
Sooryavanshi has been picked for the crucial T20I games, and if he gets picked in the playing XI, the teenager will be next seen in action on July 23 in the first game of the series.
