Gujarat Titans had a blockbuster debut in IPL 2022, winning the title straightaway under the astute leadership of Hardik Pandya. However, they failed to replicate the same since then, and the Shubman Gill-led side has acknowledged they need someone who has had the habit of winning in the past.

With Hardik Pandya no longer at the helm, taking over Mumbai Indians as Rohit Sharma’s successor, Gujarat Titans needed someone who had seen success in the IPL in the past. And they signed someone who did it before twice in three years while working for KKR, in 2012 and in 2014.

Vijay Dahiya Joins Gujarat Titans For IPL 2026

One of Gautam Gambhir’s most trusted individuals, Vijay Dahiya joined Gujarat Titans as an assistant coach. Dahiya’s signing for IPL 2026 came after Matthew Hayden, who joined Shubman Gill and his boys as a batting coach.

Notably, Dahiya was with KKR from 2009 to 2015, and worked as an assistant coach there when captain Gambhir helped the Purple and Gold Brigade to win the title in 2012 and 2014. He was later replaced by Simon Katich.

Dahiya later joined Lucknow Super Giants (LSG), where Gambhir was there as a mentor. His LSG tenure was between 2021 and 2023. Prior to that, he worked as a head talent scout for Delhi Capitals, from 2019 to 2021.

Even before helping KKR for IPL glory, Dahiya was a popular name in India’s domestic circuit. Under his coaching, Delhi won the Ranji Trophy in the 2007-08 season.

Gujarat Titans IPL Record

Gujarat Titans finished at the top of the league in IPL 2022, and so they were in IPL 2023. Even though they got the title in IPL 2022, CSK did not allow them to enjoy the same in the following year.

However, after Hardik Pandya left the franchise following the 2023 season, Shubman Gill failed to carry on the momentum. Under Gill, Gujarat Titans finished on eighth place once the league stage was over, although they improved their form in 2025 by finishing third on the points table.

However, it was not enough, as RCB ended up winning IPL title last year by defeating Punjab Kings.

RCB vs SRH To Begin IPL 2026

The IPL governing body on Wednesday announced the opening-phase schedule for the upcoming edition. The IPL 2026 will get underway on March 28, with RCB vs SRH at Chinnaswamy Stadium all set to kick off the proceedings.

Gujarat Titans’ IPL 2026 journey will get underway on March 31, with Punjab Kings being their first opposition. Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals and Lucknow Supergiants will play next, on April 4, 8 and 12 respectively.

So far, the IPL governing body has only announced 20 fixtures, keeping in mind that the Assembly Election dates in West Bengal, Assam and Tamil Nadu are still pending.
