Glenn Maxwell rolled back the years with a vintage display of power-hitting, this time for the Hyderabad Kingsmen franchise following a string of failures this PSL 2026 season. Smashing his maiden PSL fifty, the legendary Australian all-rounder clobbered eight fours and three sixes in his electrifying knock of 70 from 37 balls.

It is worth noting that Maxwell opted to play the PSL 2026 season in Pakistan after withdrawing his name from the IPL 2026 auction late last year.

Glenn Maxwell taps into his usual mode, punctures Mohammad Amir and co.

Australian veteran Glenn Maxwell struck the first fifty of his PSL career, doing so against the RawalPindiZ franchise in match number 39 of the PSL 2026 season at the National Stadium in Karachi.

Batting at number seven and arriving to the crease at a precarious 119-5 around the halfway stage of the innings, the cricketer belted 70 runs off just 37 balls with eight boundaries and three huge sixes.

The legendary all-rounder even took a special liking to experienced fast bowler Mohammad Amir, consigning the latter to expensive wicketless bowling figures of 0-57 from his four overs.

Maxwell eventually got his innings curtailed in the final over courtesy of a run out, after having crafted a blistering 108-run partnership for the sixth wicket with fellow half-centurion Kusal Perera (50* off 30).

Their collective efforts blazed the Hyderabad Kingsmen franchise to a monumental 244-6 in 20 overs after getting invited to bat first.

Glenn Maxwell’s fifty preceded by a lackluster run in franchise cricket

Glenn Maxwell, a veteran of over 500 T20 matches and multiple World Cup wins for Australia, started off the PSL 2026 season with just 26 runs in five innings for the Hyderabad Kingsmen. Moreover, the cricketer listed 21 of those runs in a single innings against Islamabad United, and averaged 6.50 prior to his latest half-century this season.

An T20I extraordinaire for Australia through and through, Maxwell has struggled to translate his white-ball excellence in major franchise leagues over the past few years.

Even in the IPL, the cricketer has aggregated just 100 runs in his past 15 innings combined at a dismal average of 6.67, and struck his last fifty-plus score back during the 2023 edition of the tournament.

In the BBL 2025-26 season earlier this year in Australia for Melbourne Stars, the hard-hitting middle-order batter accrued just 76 runs at an average of 15.20 in eight innings, thus compounding his prolonged slump in franchise cricket before this vintage knock finally offered a timely reminder of his enduring pedigree.

Hyderabad Kingsmen mount 244-6

Apart from Maxwell, number three batter Usman Khan also struck 54 off just 26 balls at the top with four fours and four sixes. Overseas star Kusal Perera made 50* from 30 balls as he shared a 100-plus counterattacking partnership with the legendary all-rounder.

Even though the likes of captain Marnus Labuschagne and young Saim Ayub failed to go big in the innings, the Kingsmen franchise ended up charting 244-6 in 20 overs after batting first.
