Ahead of the PSL 2026 season, Australian players’ availability has unexpectedly gotten complicated. The players in focus here are Marnus Labuschagne and Glenn Maxwell.
PSL’s newly added franchise, Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen, signed Maxwell to strengthen their all-rounder depth. However, his full-season availability was uncertain due to Australia’s active domestic season.
Marnus Labuschagne is available for PSL 11
For context, Marnus Labuschagne had originally been expected to miss the opening matches of PSL 11 because of commitments with his state team in Australia’s Sheffield Shield.
Anticipating this absence, the Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen moved quickly to secure Maxwell as a short-term cover signing to strengthen the side during the early phase of the tournament.
However, the situation has shifted dramatically after Labuschagne’s state side was knocked out of the Sheffield Shield, freeing him earlier than expected.
With no remaining domestic fixtures in Australia, Marnus Labuschagne is now available from the very start of the PSL season.

What will happen to Glenn Maxwell?
The development potentially leaves the Hyderabad Houston Kingsmen overloaded with overseas batting options, meaning Glenn Maxwell’s role in the squad is diminished.
If Marnus Labuschagne joins immediately, the franchise must decide whether to retain Glenn Maxwell and adjust the overseas balance, limit Maxwell’s appearances, or shorten his stint, since he was initially brought in as cover.
The Kingsmen had already built a strong batting lineup featuring Labuschagne alongside players such as Saim Ayub, Usman Khan, and Kusal Perera.
Maxwell’s arrival adds another power-hitting all-round option, but if Labuschagne is available from match one, the team could face selection dilemmas regarding overseas slots.
Overall, what was meant to be a straightforward replacement signing has suddenly turned into a selection headache for the Kingsmen just weeks before PSL 11 begins.
The PSL trade window opens with back-to-back trades
Meanwhile, a major squad reshuffle has taken place ahead of the PSL 2026 season, with Islamabad United and Multan Sultans completing a notable player trade involving Pakistan pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr.
The deal sees Wasim Jr move to Multan, while Islamabad receives fellow fast bowler Salman Mirza and emerging batter Nisar Ahmed as part of the exchange.
The franchise confirmed the deal via social media, welcoming Mirza and Nisar while wishing Wasim Jr success at his new team.
Also, this is the second trade involving Multan Sultans during the ongoing PSL trading window.
Earlier, the franchise completed another swap with Quetta Gladiators, bringing in Ahmed Daniyal and Jahanzaib Sultan, while sending Faisal Akram and Arafat Minhas the other way.
The trade window for PSL 11 remains open until March 18, giving teams a few more days to make adjustments before the tournament begins. The upcoming PSL season will officially begin on March 26.
