The Hundred 2026 auction took place in the last two days, and several high-profile players were sold as all the franchises invested heavily to improve their teams from last season. While uncapped player, James Coles became the costliest buy in the auction, and in a surprising move, IPL-owned The Hundred franchise invested in Pakistan player, Abrar Ahmed.

During the auction, the focus was also on the Pakistan players as several big names had put forward their names, and in a not-so-surprising move, only two Pakistan players were sold- Abrar Ahmed and Usman Tariq.

While Kavya Maran’s Sunrisers invested in Abrar Ahmed, Birmingham Phoenix showed trust in the mystery spinner as they roped in Tariq for the upcoming season.

However, unlike Abrar and Tariq, all the other Pakistan stars had no suitable buyers and here is a list of all the Pakistan stars who were ignored in The Hundred 2026 auction.

  • Haris Rauf
  • Naseem Shah
  • Saim Ayub
  • Shadab Khan
  • Fatima Sana
  • Sadia Iqbal

Why the Pakistan players went unsold in The Hundred auction

The Indian-owned The Hundred franchises (4 in total) were reportedly not interested in buying the Pakistan players, but there were four other teams that could have gone after Pakistan players, but they didn’t.

It has nothing to do with the India vs Pakistan political turmoil, but rather the performances have been poor for franchises to show any interest in them.

Take for example, Haris Rauf, the Pakistan speedster is known for taking wickets, and while he does that job to perfection, but at the same time, the right-arm seamer leaks runs for fun, and a format like The Hundred cannot have someone who gives away easy runs to the opposition.

The likes of Shadab Khan, and Saim Ayub have been poor as of late. Both players were included in Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad, and both had a disappointing campaign as they failed to deliver the goods, and the franchises showed no interest in them.

Even in the Women’s auction, Pakistan stars had no suitable buyers. While Fatima Sana has done well for her nation in recent times, but other Women’s players were in high demand as she found no buyer in the auction.

Sunrisers face heavy backlash for Abrar Ahmed investment

Sunrisers Leeds were keen to invest in Pakistan spinner Abrar Ahmed, and they bought him for a hefty price at the auction table. However, the decision to buy him came at a cost as the franchise faced heavy backlash for picking a Pakistani player in the team.

With India and Pakistan’s relations at an all-time low due to the Pahalgam terror attack last year, it was expected that the IPL-owned Hundred sides would snub players from Pakistan, but that didn’t happen.

The team was heavily trolled on social media, and hours after buying Abrar, Sunrisers’ social media account (X) was suspended, and no reason has been given as of yet.
