The past decade has not been the finest for Pakistan Cricket. It has been 9 years since they last won an ICC Trophy. Further, there recent performances in World Cups have sparked criticism and led to massive overhauls within the system.
Recently, Azam Khan, who is out of the scheme of things, appeared on Backwards Point Cricket Podcast, where he opened up on the criticism he received for the 2024 T20 World Cup. For the unversed, Pakistan crashed out in the group stages after defeats against India and the USA.
Azam Khan Slams Critics For 2024 T20 World Cup Blame
Azam Khan was part of the 2024 T20 World Cup squad and received massive criticism for his performancde. Notably, Khan was blamed for Pakistan's loss, which did not go well with him. Notably, Azam, speaking on Backwards Point, stated that he played just a solitary game and to put the entire blame on him was not right.
"In the 2024 World Cup, everything was blamed on me. Dude, I played only one game and faced just one ball. How can you blame me for the entire World Cup?" Azam said.
Azam Khan Takes A Dig At Fit Pakistan Players
Azam Khan also opened up on fitness and took a dig at current stars who are part of the team because of their fitness. The right-handed keeper-batter remarked that the fit players too struggled to chase 120 runs target against India in 2026 T20 World Cup.

"All your fittest players didn't do anything either. You couldn't even chase 120 runs, yet you're talking about fitness and skills?," Azam Khan added.
Azam Khan Fighting To Regain Spot In Pakistan Team
Azam Khan has not played a solitary match for Pakistan since 2024. In the past couple of years, Azam Khan has worked on his fitness and shed several kilos. However, he still continues to be out of the scheme of things.
Talking about his recent performance, Azam Khan had a decent PSL 2026, where he scored 236 runs in 8 innings, averaging 33.71. His last cricket outing was in Global T20, where he scored 30 runs in 3 innings.
