IPL is the biggest cricketing league in the world, and every time a controversy occurs, IPL’s name gets tarnished, and this is exactly what happened in the clash between KKR and LSG at the Eden Gardens on Thursday. IPL certainly has the best technology, but that was of no use in the marquee clash.

Umpiring and technological blunders are rare to be seen in the cash-rich tournament, but on Thursday, umpires made a huge controversial decision that could eventually change the complexion of the game.

Finn Allen wrongly given out as KKR Vs LSG lands in controversy

There is no doubt that Finn Allen, the Kiwi opener, is KKR’s best batter. He can be aggressive, and has the ability to take away the game in the blink of an eye. Against LSG, the KKR management would have hoped for a Finn Allen special, but an umpiring blunder cost him his wicket in the most controversial fashion.

Prince Yadav bowled a back-of-length delivery as Allen swung hard and got a top-edge. Digvesh Rathi was standing at the third man region. He was standing close to the boundary ropes as the LSG player managed to grab the ball and Allen was back to the pavilion.

The fielder was close to the boundary cushion, and there were doubts that he might have touched the ropes while attempting the catch. The umpires should have sent it upstairs for a referral, but they decided not to.

Eventually, the replays showed that Digvesh indeed touched the ropes as he grabbed the ball. Allen should not have been out, but due to the umpiring blunder, the KKR opener was sent back.

Fans bash IPL as umpires make howler in KKR Vs LSG match

IPL fans were quick to notice the blunder made by the umpires as the league came under scrutiny and everyone involved in the decision-making were criticised by the fans.

Not the first time umpiring error has created controversy in IPL 2026

Interestingly, this is not the first time the fans have witnessed an umpiring error. In the clash between CSK and PBKS, Super Kings batter, Ayush Mhatre failed the bat test twice, but only due to the error made by the umpire.

After the dismissal of Sanju Samson, Mhatre came out to bat, and his bat failed to pass the gauge test, not once, but twice. Commentator Ian Bishop was left stunned, and he clearly mentioned that Mhatre failed the test due to the fact that the umpire held the gauge upside down.

KKR stabilise innings after Allen's dismissal

Allen departed early in the innings, and instead of playing Cameron Green at number 3, KKR played a punt and promoted the in-form Angkrish Raghuvanshi. The move paid off as he, alongside captain Rahane, stabilised the KKR innings.

The duo looked unfazed after the controversial Allen dismissal as they took down the LSG attack, and had a special liking towards pace bowler, Avesh Khan.

They added 84 runs in quick succession before LSG struck with the wicket of Rahane, who departed for a quick-fire 41 off 24 balls.
