Fatima Sana injured after fielding attempt in WBBL [Source: X]
Pakistan captain Fatima Sana was involved in a worrying moment during Perth Scorchers’ WBBL 2026 clash against Sydney Thunder on Thursday, November 5, at Drummoyne Oval in Sydney.
The all-rounder appeared to hurt her left knee while attempting a sliding stop in the field and needed medical attention. For the unaware, Sana joined the Scorchers for her first WBBL season after signing a one-year deal, becoming only the second Pakistani player to feature in the competition.
Fatima Sana clutches knee in pain after fielding injury
The incident occurred during the fourth over of Sydney Thunder’s innings, with Lilly Mills bowling to Phoebe Litchfield. At 3.3 overs, Litchfield stepped down the track and pushed the ball towards the covers, where Sana moved across to make a sliding stop.
However, the Pakistan all-rounder appeared to get her left knee stuck during the attempt. She immediately went down and clutched her knee in pain, prompting a call for the team physio.
The medical staff came onto the field to assess her condition, while Ruby Strange was brought on as a substitute fielder as Sana appeared set to leave the ground.

The incident raised concerns about a possible knee injury, particularly with the Scorchers relying on Fatima Sana as an important all-round option. However, there was some relief later in the match as she returned to the field and also bowled two overs.
Will Fatima Sana be ruled out of WBBL 2026?
The exact extent of Fatima Sana’s knee injury is not yet known. However, her return to the field and subsequent involvement with the ball offer some encouragement for Perth Scorchers.
While the incident could require medical assessment and careful workload management, her participation later in the match makes an immediate spell on the sidelines appear less likely.
Sana has made three appearances for the Scorchers so far in WBBL 2026, picking up three wickets at an economy rate of 7.88. She claimed two wickets against Melbourne Renegades on October 31, went wicketless against Melbourne Stars on November 2, and added another against Sydney Thunder.
The Scorchers will hope that the Pakistan captain has avoided a serious injury, with their next fixture scheduled for Sunday, November 8, against Melbourne Stars. Her availability for that match will depend on the medical assessment and how well her knee responds after the incident.
