Kieron Pollard is set to step down as head coach of the MI London franchise in The Hundred. The former West Indies all-rounder initially took charge of the team earlier this year for The Hundred 2026 season in England.
Pollard was also recently promoted to the same position at the Mumbai Indians franchise in the IPL for next year’s IPL 2027 season.
Kieron Pollard leaves MI London, franchise to look for replacement
The MI London men’s team will have a new head coach in The Hundred 2027 season next year. Kieron Pollard is set to step down from the role primarily to get some time off, as per a Cricinfo report.
He was appointed as MI London head coach earlier this year for The Hundred 2026 season in England. During his tenure, the MI London team finished fourth on the eight-team points table as they narrowly missed out on the playoffs berth.
Under the leadership of all-rounder Sam Curran, MI London registered five wins and three defeats from eight matches. While they levelled with Sunrisers Leeds with 20 points on the table, the MI London group got knocked out owing to their inferior NRR.
The Surrey Cricket Club also had their men’s head coach Gareth Batty step down as he took up an assistant coaching role at the CSK for next year’s IPL 2027 season.
Since Surrey co-owns MI London with the Reliance Industries Ltd, it is understood that the Surrey Cricket Club will advertise for its own head coach later this year, and the successful candidate might also work with The Hundred franchise as Pollard’s replacement.
Kieron Pollard takes up coaching role at Mumbai Indians
While Kieron Pollard may be stepping down as head coach of MI London, the former West Indies all-rounder took up the same position at MI’s IPL division, the Mumbai Indians for the IPL 2027 season next year.
He was appointed as Mumbai Indians head coach just a few weeks ago as a replacement of outbound Mahela Jayawardene. It is worth noting that Pollard is already familiar with the Mumbai Indians, having represented the franchise in 189 matches spanning 13 different seasons as a player.
The T20 veteran was part of their title-winning side on all five occasions, and has also served the Mumbai Indians franchise as its batting coach.
One can empathize with Kieron Pollard’s decision of leaving MI London after joining Mumbai Indians. Since the report states that the cricketer wanted “some time off”, The Hundred seasons in England usually commences shortly after the conclusion of IPL seasons in India, leaving him with little time in between the two demanding leagues.
