Jasprit Bumrah-Ram Charan controversy takes new turn [Source: X, AFP]
In a viral incident, famous Indian actor Ram Charan failed to identify Indian fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah during a fan event. But according to social media, Bumrah didn’t take the joke lightly and instead hit back at Ram.
Bumrah is one of India’s most successful modern-day fast bowlers with proven brilliance across all formats of the game. However, despite his popularity, actor Ram Charan made a big mix-up that led to social media uproar.
Ram Charan called Bumrah a footballer
For context, popular actor Ram Charan attended the music launch event of his film ‘Peddi’ in Bhopal along with several celebrities. During a media interaction, he was asked to describe famous Indian cricketers in a few words.
He gave positive descriptions for Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. However, when asked about Jasprit Bumrah, Ram Charan accidentally mixed up sports and referred to him as a footballer instead of a cricketer.
The mistake sounded unusual, but the internet treated it mostly as a humorous moment rather than a serious controversy.
Still, Ram Charan issued an apology, saying he is forgetful of names. The actor added that he respects Bumrah and thanked him for his contribution to Indian cricket.

Did Jasprit Bumrah hit back at Ram Charan?
Meanwhile, adding fuel to this controversy, a viral screenshot has been going viral on social media. It suggests that Jasprit Bumrah reacted to Ram Charan’s goof-up and said, “It’s alright Yash Bhai, am also a big fan of yours. Eagerly waiting for Toxic.”
According to the post, Bumrah purposely referred to Ram Charan as 'Yash' who is another famour Kannada actor. This was meant as a dig as the pacer even allegedly promoted Yash's upcoming movie 'Toxic.'
However, the screenshot is totally fake, as Bumrah has not yet reacted to the whole incident. He is busy playing the IPL 2026 with the Mumbai Indians and has chosen to stay away from the social media chatter.
The screenshot was mainly fabricated to gain clout and views by using Jasprit Bumrah’s name. In reality, the star Indian pacer’s Instagram is clean, and the story is completely baseless.

Such fake screenshots on social media have become the norm in this modern age. Fan pages tend to indulge in such practices to gain clout. The same thing has happened with Jasprit Bumrah here.
Since he is a public figure, people tend to click on anything that features his name or image. However, fans must be vigilant as well. They must cross-check every piece of information before consuming it and refrain from sharing anything that has no factual backing.
For now, Jasprit Bumrah is focused on finishing the IPL 2026 season on a high as the Mumbai Indians take on the Rajasthan Royals in the final league game on Sunday.
Notably, MI, after losing 9 out of the 13 games, got eliminated from the playoff race but will still fight for pride for one final time at the Wankhede Stadium.
