Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah, India's star frontline bowler, had a forgettable IPL 2026 season. However, to make things worse, South Indian actor Ram Charan even forgot Bumrah's identity and mistakenly referred to him as a footballer instead of the premier cricketer he is.

During a promotional event attended by celebrities like Janhvi Kapoor as well as music composer A. R. Rahman, Ram Charan made the blunder in front of a live television audience while praising iconic cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli.

The Mega Jasprit Bumrah Blunder Made by Ram Charan

Ram Charan was called on stage for a small activity where the host asked him to share a one-line opinion about personalities whose names would be announced. The first name was Sachin Tendulkar, to which Ram Charan responded by praising his legendary career.

The next was MS Dhoni, whom Charan described as “calm and cool.” When asked about Rohit Sharma, Ram Charan said that he is everyone’s man and is open and friendly with all. For Virat Kohli, Charan punched the air and loudly exclaimed, “Fire!”

However, when it came to Jasprit Bumrah, Charan made a major mistake. He said, “Jasprit Bumrah ji, I am your biggest fan. I love football, and you are making us so proud by taking football forward and helping it grow around the world.”

Although there was no immediate reaction to the statement that mistakenly turned Bumrah from a cricketer into a footballer, Ram Charan later took to his official social media handle to apologize to the Mumbai Indians pacer for the mix-up.

Ram Charan Apologizes For The Mistake

He explained that he sometimes gets confused with names and accidentally mixed up Jasprit Bumrah with a footballer in the excitement of the moment and the large crowd.

“Uff… I’m genuinely so forgetful with names sometimes. Apologies to @Jaspritbumrah93 Ji for the mix-up - it was a genuine human error in the middle of all the excitement and the crowd. I truly respect you and I am a huge fan of your game. You make every Indian feel proud when you consistently put batsmen on back foot,” Charan wrote on his social media handle of X.

Despite the apology, netizens were quick to troll Ram Charan for his forgetfulness:

The Worst Season Of Bumrah In IPL 2026

Meanwhile, Jasprit Bumrah played 13 matches in IPL 2026, taking only four wickets at an economy rate of 8.37.

Unlike his usual dominant performances, Bumrah struggled despite bowling pinpoint yorkers and maintaining accurate lengths, as batters appeared unusually comfortable against him. In fact, youngsters like Vaibhav Sooryavanshi even hit Bumrah for sixes and boundaries in the opening overs.

However, the story was completely different a few months later during the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, where Bumrah picked up 14 wickets in eight innings at an economy rate of 6.21.

Nevertheless, Bumrah’s IPL 2026 campaign officially ended after Mumbai Indians played their final group-stage match against Rajasthan Royals on May 24.

Mumbai Indians were knocked out of the tournament after a disappointing season in which they won only four of their 13 matches, finishing ninth on the points table.
