Punjab Kings captain Shreyas Iyer achieved a major personal milestone during the IPL 2026 clash against LSG. He ranked in an elite record list featuring legends like Virat Kohli.
Iyer achieved this feat during a must-win encounter against LSG. Batting first, Lucknow had scored 196/6 after Ayush Badoni’s explosive knock of 43 off 18 balls.
Meanwhile, in the chase, PBKS didn’t have a flying start, but captain Shreyas Iyer stepped up to show resistance.
Shreyas Iyer achieves 7000 T20 runs
Coming into bat at 22/2, Shreyas Iyer knew he had to anchor the chase for PBKS and lead from the front. He built a 100+ run partnership with Prabhsimran Singh to ensure Punjab stayed in the game.
Iyer scored a half-century, and in the process, he also completed 7000 T20 runs. He reached the landmark in 247 innings, which is the fourth fastest by an Indian batter in T20s.
Shreyas is now placed behind only KL Rahul, Virat Kohli, and Shikhar Dhawan. What makes the achievement notable is that Iyer moved ahead of aggressive T20 stars like Suryakumar Yadav, who took 249 innings to reach the same mark.
Fastest Indian Batter to 7000 T20 Runs (By Innings):
- 197 - KL Rahul
- 212 - Virat Kohli
- 246 - Shikhar Dhawan
- 247 - Shreyas Iyer
- 249 - Suryakumar Yadav
Also, the timing of the landmark is important. Shreyas Iyer produced his best knock when the Punjab Kings needed it the most.

Shreyas-Prabhsimran stitch a big partnership
That being said, after the fall of two early wickets, the Punjab Kings are back on track owing to Shreyas Iyer and Prabhsimran Singh’s big partnership. The duo completed their fifties and are cruising in the chase.
Mohammad Shami was the only standout bowler for LSG as he picked up two wickets of Priyansh Arya and Cooper Connolly in the powerplay. But other bowlers like Digvesh Rathi and Mohsin Khan conceded runs.
No bowler apart from Shami was able to produce a wicket which hurt LSG big time. With just over 40 runs needed in the last six overs, PBKS are favourites to win this high-stakes encounter.
Punjab Kings must win to stay alive in the playoff race
Meanwhile, this game against LSG is extremely crucial for the Punjab Kings. With 13 points, they are seated at the fifth spot on the points table. With this win, they will go to a maximum of 15 points and overtake the Rajasthan Royals to grab the fourth position.
However, winning alone won’t be enough. PBKS need RR to lose their last league game against the Mumbai Indians, which is scheduled at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

Only then can the Punjab Kings stand a chance to qualify for the playoffs of the ongoing IPL 2026 season. While KKR are also in the hunt, Punjab’s victory at Ekana would rule them out.
