Jemimah Rodrigues criticised for poor shot selection [Source: @sujeetsuman1991, @7Cricket/X.com]
Former Australian coach and cricketer Justin Langer was fuming at Jemimah Rodrigues after she gifted her wicket away during day 2 of the Perth Test against Australia Women. Langer questioned her game awareness over poor shot selection.
With India Women trailing by 87 runs, Rodrigues had to support Pratika Rawal. But she instead threw her wicket away in an embarrassing shot, which left fans and commentators fuming.
Jemimah Rodrigues faces heat over poor shot
India came out to bat in the second inning on day 2 with a trail of 125 runs. Openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma had poor outings, as they both returned to the dressing room with just 10 runs on the board.
However, Pratika Rawal showed some courage, scoring an unbeaten 43 off 84 balls. She got some support from Jemimah Rodrigues, who got a good start at 14 off 15 balls.
But, instead of capitalising on the momentum, Jemimah Rodrigues got dismissed after attempting a risky shot. She tried to play a scoop shot against Annabel Sutherland and got a top edge that went toward the leg side.
Beth Mooney, the wicketkeeper, ran and took a safe catch to send Jeminah back on just 14 runs, thus leaving India 3 down at 38 runs.

Justin Langer calls Jemimah ‘dumb’
As soon as Jemimah Rodrigues threw her wicket away, former cricketer Justin Langer lashed out at her from the commentary box. He called it “dumb cricket” because it was a Test match where patience was required.
India still had more than two days left in the match, and Jemimah had started her innings technically well, but threw it away with a risky shot.
“Dumb cricket. Poor cricket. She will rue that decision. You're playing Test cricket, you've got two and a bit days to bat. Very, very disappointing end to what has been a technically excellent innings,” Langer said on air.
His main point was that there was no need to attempt such an aggressive scoop shot so early in a long-format game.
India need a miracle in the Perth Test
That being said, India Women are firmly on the back foot in the only Test against Australia Women at Perth. After posting 198 runs in the first inning, the hosts responded aggressively in the second inning.
Ellyse Perry scored 76 runs to become the leading run-scorer in the Test format for Australia Women. On the other hand, Annabel Sutherland slammed a heroic 129 off 171 balls to guide Australia to a strong total of 323 runs with a 125-run lead in hand.
In response, India bundled under pressure. They failed to hold partnerships and lost 6 wickets at 105 runs at stumps on day 2, with a 20-run trail still left to cover.
Lucy Hamilton picked three wickets for Australia while Annabel Sutherland continued her all-round dominance with a 2-wicket-haul.
