Former Indian captain Sourav Ganguly is set to host the upcoming season of reality TV show Bigg Boss Bangla. The show was announced in a grand event at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 6, 2026.
Although the event was about a TV show, it was covered by a sports outlet because the host is Sourav Ganguly, one of the most influential figures in Indian cricket.
Sourav Ganguly to enter the entertainment industry
Bigg Boss Bangla is the Bengali regional version of the famous reality show Bigg Boss, which itself is based on the international format Big Brother.
The show will be broadcast on Star Jalsha, and at its launch, Sourav Ganguly was confirmed as the official host.
The launch included an official logo unveiling, a large light show inside Eden Gardens, performances by artists and actors from Kolkata and a celebrity cricket match involving several personalities.
During the event, Sourav Ganguly said he is excited about hosting the show but added that he will need proper preparation and rehearsals.
When asked why he would prepare so seriously despite already achieving so much in cricket, he replied, saying no job is big or small. Whether it’s playing for India or hosting a show, he wants to do it with full dedication and perfection.
“A job is a job; no job is big or small. Whether it’s representing India in an Under-15 World Cup, playing for the country at the senior level and winning matches, or hosting a show, I would want to do everything with utmost dedication and perfection. My efforts won’t be any less,” Ganguly said.

Sourav Ganguly’s biopic on floors
Interestingly, apart from TV, Sourav Ganguly’s life will soon be on the big screens. A biopic on his life and career is currently in development, with Rajkummar Rao having been confirmed to play the lead role as Ganguly.
According to the latest reports, Aparajita Adhya is likely to play Ganguly’s mother, and Boman Irani is expected to portray his father, Chandi Ganguly.
To prepare for the role, Rajkummar Rao is expected to spend time at Ganguly’s home in Kolkata, study his personality and may work on the Bengali language and accent.
Sourav Ganguly back as CAB president
That being said, as a cricket administrator, Sourav Ganguly returned as CAB president in September 2025, thus succeeding his elder brother, Snehasish Ganguly. The former cricketer previously held this position from 2015 to 2019.
But because no other candidate filed a nomination, Sourav Ganguly was elected unopposed. There was speculation that Ganguly could also return as president of the BCCI.
Notably, Ganguly was BCCI president from 2019 to 2022 and was later replaced by Roger Binny. However, that position later went to another former cricketer, Mithun Manhas.
