Dinesh Karthik calls out Nasser Hussain and Atherton [Source: @sarkarstix, @SportsNutDan/x]
Dinesh Karthik has called out the hypocrisy of prominent England commentators Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton after Pakistan bowed out of the 2026 T20 World Cup semi-final race. Incidentally, Pakistan failed to make it to the top four of the tournament despite playing all their matches in Sri Lanka and travelling the least among all competing nations.
When Team India was presented with the same scenario back in early 2025 during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai, both Hussain and Atherton were central figures in undermining India’s unbeaten campaign.
Dinesh Karthik calls out England “fossils” for Pakistan bias
On March 3, i.e., a couple of days prior to the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup, Indian commentator Dinesh Karthik interacted with former England cricketers Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton for Sky Sports.

During their podcast, the three commentators discussed the four semi-finalists of the ongoing showpiece event in India and Sri Lanka. At one stage, Karthik also expressed his surprise at the Pakistan team for not being able to make it the top four of the tournament, despite playing all their matches in close proximity and travelling the least among all competing nations.
The former Indian wicketkeeper-batter also called out the hypocrisy of Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton, who remained mum on Pakistan’s situation a year after leading an “undermining” crusade against India for winning the 2025 Champions Trophy at a single venue in Dubai.
Dinesh Karthik said, “I expected Pakistan to qualify for the semis because they have played consistently in Colombo, stayed in one hotel, know the pitches well, and both you FOSSILS cried that's one of the reasons India did so well in Champions Trophy. By that same accord, Pak should have done something in this World Cup.”
What happened during Champions Trophy 2025?
Team India played all its matches in Dubai during the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy owing to their refusal to travel to Pakistan, citing security concerns. Under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, the ‘Men in Blue’ ended up winning all five matches to lift the title on March 9.
However, India’s unbeaten crusade was offset by several cricket experts questioning the fairness of the scheduling advantage. Apart from veteran England commentators Nasser Hussain and Michael Atherton; ex-West Indies pacer Andy Roberts, fast bowler Mitchell Starc and South Africa’s David Miller were among other individuals who publicly raised concerns over the perceived advantage India enjoyed by playing all their matches at a single venue.
However, Steve Smith and legendary fast bowler Glenn McGrath came to India’s defense, dismissing the criticism around the scheduling advantage.
India in semi-finals, Pakistan back home in T20 World Cup 2026
Presented with the same “unfair advantage” that Pakistan fans and cricket experts once accused India of having, the current ‘Men in Green’ team failed to qualify for the semi-finals of the 2026 T20 World Cup.
The team suffered demoralizing defeats at the hands of India in the Group Stage, and to England in the Super 8s, before failing to overcome Sri Lanka by a desired margin of 65 runs.
India, on the other hand, marched into the semi-final by outclassing West Indies in Kolkata last weekend. Riding on Sanju Samson’s exceptional 50-ball 97*, the hosts secured a comprehensive five-wicket win and will now face England at Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium on March 5.
