The student protests in Delhi have gained massive attention across India. Alongside Delhi, multiple cities are now under the scanner to join the revolution, where the students and the Cockroach Janta Party are demanding student reforms alongside the immediate resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Amidst all this chaos, the cricketing fraternity, or the majority of it, is yet to take any stance or side with or against the government. While a few of them have raised their voices, many are yet to stand up.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma tweets go viral
Recently, an X handle of the Cockroach Janta Party shared images of Virat Kohli, Shubman Gill, and Rohit Sharma supporting the cause of CJP in the protest.
It claimed that Virat Kohli on his X handle and Shubman Gill on his Instagram story had taken a massive stance on the protest, while Rohit Sharma had taken to his own official X handle to comment on the injustice.

Did Rohit Sharma really comment on CJP protests?
An account called Rohit Sherma, with the user ID @WorshipRohit, wrote, "A fair education system is the foundation of a strong nation. The concerns of students deserve to be heard through dialogue, not violence. Lathi charges and the use of force against students are deeply unfortunate and should have no place in democracy.
At the same time, those who deliberately disrupt or oppose a fair and merit-based education system must also be held accountable. Fairness cannot be sacrificed. Dharmendra Pradhan should take all the responsibilities. The future of our country deserves justice, transparency, and accountability."
The post, on July 23 at 11:35 p.m. IST, quickly reached 8,000 views with 25 reposts and 170 likes on X. However, this was not the official X handle of the Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma since it was spelt as Rohit Sherma, not Sharma. Hence, this tweet is actually fake, and the real Indian cricketer is yet to comment on the development.
Did Virat Kohli really post for the students on X?
Meanwhile, the Cockroach Janta Party handle on X thanked Virat Kohli with a screenshot of him posting on the social media platform. As per the post, Kohli wrote:
"Students deserve a fair system, transparent examinations, and a future built on merit. The concerns being raised by students should be heard seriously. I hope the authorities take immediate and meaningful action to address their grievances. The future of our country deserves justice, transparency, and accountability."
Unfortunately, it was a fake account of Virat Kohli, with the user ID reading @HighOnChurma, while Virat Kohli's official user ID reads @imVkohli. Hence, this screenshot posted by the Cockroach Janta Party’s X handle also appeared to be fake.
Which cricketers raised their voices in the student protest?
However, it was Shubman Gill's, the Indian ODI skipper's, Instagram story which appeared to be true. Gill posted the story supporting the students on July 23 at around 9:30 p.m. IST, taking a strong stance for the students and the protesting crowd at Delhi's Jantar Mantar while asking the government to mutually reach a conclusion where compassion, mutual respect, and proper education lie at the centre.
Other than Shubman Gill, cricketers like Yuvraj Singh and former Pakistan cricketer Danish Kaneria have commented on the student protests. Singh requested the students to be wary of the situation around them and carry out the protests more peacefully while cooperating with the government.
Meanwhile, Danish Kaneria also spoke on the CJP protests but from a more government-supporting approach.
The former Pakistan cricketer fully expressed his support for the government while criticising the student protests, saying that the protests have no clear intention and no proper organisation to demand an amicable solution, with only Hinduism, casteism, and religion-bashing taking place.
