I still want to play for South Africa, I'm still making myself available and it's just about making sure that everything is communicated really well."The 37-year-old spent the previous season on a hybrid arrangement, designed for players who primarily play one format while also having commitments in franchise cricket. Despite no longer being contracted, Miller said his priority remains South Africa."My priority has always been South Africa. Although I've played a lot of leagues, I've always wanted to play for South Africa and I love playing for South Africa. Nothing's changed. It's just that I've lost my contract. That's pretty much where it stands and I still make myself available. A hamstring injury eventually prevented that return.Miller also faces increasing competition for middle-order positions. South Africa head coach Shukri Conrad has identified Matthew Breetzke, Tristan Stubbs and Dewald Brevis among the players competing for places alongside David Miller.Miller commits for World Cup 2027With the World Cup 2027 approaching, the 37-year-old is aware that competition for places in South Africa's white-ball squad will be intense."There's a lot of players putting their hands up and it's about doing what works for me, giving myself the best chance. preparing really well and giving everything that I can for the team," he said.However, the experienced batter remains focused on controlling what he can and giving himself the best chance of making the squad."It's just about making sure that I'm really focused and, and tuned in to what's important. In the 2026 ETPL, he scored 173 runs in seven innings at an average of 34.60 and a strike rate of 151.75. His recent T20I numbers have also been encouraging. In 2026, Miller has scored 174 runs in six innings at an average of 58.00 and a strike rate of 155.35, including a highest score of 63. Miller currently has 4,611 runs and 178 international appearances for South Africa, making him one of the most-capped player in the present Proteas squad.
