In a performance that will be remembered as one of the greatest bowling displays in cricket history, Laura Cardoso delivered a sensational spell to lead the Brazil Women to a dominant victory over the Lesotho Women team. 

Both teams were competing in the 14th fixture of the BCA Kalahari Women's T20I tournament in Botswana. Brazil batted first and put a massive total on board before Cardoso crushed Lesotho with an unthinkable spell.

Laura Cardoso picks a historic 9-wicket-haul

Batting first, Brazil Women posted 202 runs on the board at the loss of 8 wickets in 20 overs. Roberta Avery scored 48 off 35 balls while Monnike Machado hammered 69 off 41 balls.

However, the tables turned in the second innings. Laura Cardoso came out all guns blazing as she rampaged the top and middle order. Lesotho Women completely surrendered against her as she bagged a breathtaking spell.

Carodo ended up picking 9 wickets for just 4 runs in just 3 overs as Lesotho got bowled out for just 13 runs in 6.2 overs.

This is now the best bowling performance in T20I history. No player before, male or female, had taken 9 wickets in a single T20I innings.

The record was previously held by Sonam Yeshey, who picked 8 wickets for 7 runs in a men’s T20I game. Rohmalia Rohmalia also once picked 7 wickets for zero runs in a women’s T20I game.

How did Cardoso's spell unfold?

The spell was nothing short of a miracle. Lauda Cardoso took a hat-trick early in the second over. She added 4 more wickets in one over and eventually finished with 9 wickets inside 3 overs

Cardoso dismissed almost the entire Lesotho lineup except for the final wicket, which went into Marianne Artur’s favour.

That being said, beyond the numbers, this performance holds special significance. Coming from a non-traditional cricketing nation, Cardoso’s feat is a sign of the rapid growth of the game beyond its established strongholds.
