Vaibhav Sooryavanshi registered his third failure on the trot, this time against Sri Lanka A in match number four of the tri-series in Dambulla. The blistering opener scored just 21 off 14 balls for India A, before failing to steer them to victory in the resultant Super Over.

Notably, what caught even more attention than Sooryavanshi’s twin failures on the day was his on-field misconduct with the Sri Lanka A players. At a time when he walking towards the dugout after the match, the 15-year-old returned and confronted a couple of Sri Lankans. The youngster was even spotted getting physical with a certain cricketer, raising fears of facing a potential ban just before his international debut.

It is worth noting that Sooryavanshi was recently selected in India national squad for the upcoming T20I tours of Ireland and England, on a trail of his prolific IPL 2026 season for the Rajasthan Royals. Here, we determine if the teenage sensation will really be banned by the ICC for his on-field misconduct in Sri Lanka.

It is worth noting that since Sooryavanshi’s incident occurred on a ‘A’ tour and not in an international match, the cricketer will likely not face any sanction from the ICC. However, the youngster can still face some form of punishment or a fine from match referee, and even from the BCCI for his misdemeanor.

What exactly happened between Vaibhav Sooryavanshi and Sri Lanka players?

The incident occurred shortly after Vaibhav Sooryavanshi failed to guide India A to a Super Over victory against Sri Lanka A. Walking back to the dugout with his partner Suryansh Shedge, the youngster returned to confront Sri Lankan players.

Based on the viral footage trending on social media, several fans believe that the Sri Lanka A team attempted to provoke the 15-year-old during his walk back.

It is also believed that Sooryavanshi was one of the leading advocators alongside captain Tilak Varma in convincing the umpires to carry on with the ‘Super Over’ despite bad light in Dambulla.

India A lose self-demanded Super Over, falls to the brink

After a tight final over from Arshad Khan restricted Sri Lanka to 265-9 from 50 overs to secure a thrilling tie, India A captain Tilak Varma and several of his teammates argued with the umpires to carry on with a Super Over amid dimming Dambulla light.

Sri Lanka A went on to win the Super Over, with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi himself failing to take India past the finishing line.

India A now remain at second position on the Sri Lanka tri-series points table with a solitary win from three matches. They will now face Afghanistan A in a must-win game on June 17 in Dambulla.
