Cameron Green stormed back into form with a sizzling century against New South Wales in match number 28 of the Sheffield Shield 2025-26 season. Batting at number four for Western Australia in Sydney, the cricketer punched out a counterattacking 135 from 254 balls with six cracking boundaries and five huge sixes.

Green backed up his first innings recital with a quick 25 on Day 4 as Western Australia escaped with a thrilling draw at Cricket Central. Apart from regaining his lost touch with the bat and winning the ‘Player of the Match’ award, the 26-year-old would have also drawn plenty of confidence from his timely return to form ahead of the IPL 2026 season.

However, mere days before linking up with the KKR camp, Cameron Green found himself embroiled in a heated exchange with an Australian journalist in Sydney, suggesting that the weight of expectations continues to linger around the all-rounder despite his recent resurgence.

Cameron Green argues with a journalist over “uncomfortable questions”

After the match, Cricket NSW invited journalists to Sydney Olympic Park to interview ‘Player of the Match’ Cameron Green. Sydney Morning Herald journalist Tom Decent was also given an opportunity to speak with Green, but only for a couple of minutes and strictly on matters related to the Sheffield Shield match.

The star all-rounder was clearly not pleased, as a simple question about his recent struggles appeared to leave him fuming. When asked about his lean patch with the bat, the 26-year-old snapped, “I’m not answering that question. Next question.”

The journalist promptly chose to end the interview, with Cameron Green muttering, “Waste of time.” In response, the journalist pointed out that he had travelled nearly 50 km and waited the entire day for a brief interaction. A visibly frustrated Green then asked, “Why are you out to get me?”

Fortunately, Western Australia assistant coach Beau Casson stepped in to defuse the situation and even apologised to the journalist on behalf of the all-rounder.

Is Cameron Green feeling the heat before IPL 2026?

Cameron Green’s recent outburst with an Australian journalist indicates that the star all-rounder might be feeling the heat ahead of the IPL 2026 season. Struggling for runs up until recently, the 26-year-old is set to join the KKR franchise with a hefty price tag, that of Rs. 25.20 crores (US$3.0 million).

At the IPL 2026 auction last December, Green set the cash registers ringing as he became the most expensive player in the history of the tournament.

With the IPL spotlight intensifying, such moments could invite even greater scrutiny from the Indian media, making his composure as crucial as his performances in the upcoming season.

Green on a trail of underwhelming returns before IPL comeback

Cameron Green missed the entire IPL 2025 season last year owing to an injury. Set to make his return to the tournament after two years, the Australian all-rounder is yet to fully rediscover his consistency with the bat heading into the high-pressure IPL 2026 season.

While he scored a match-saving century for Western Australia, the 26-year-old recently underwent a below-par T20 World Cup 2026 campaign in Sri Lanka. Green also failed to register a single half-century throughout the five-match home Ashes series against England, and could not prevent Australia’s 0-3 thrashing at the hands of hosts Pakistan last month.
