Brydon Carse Arrest Details Reveal New Alleged Assault Connection

After Brydon Carse, the English quick was arrested and de-arrested outside a Derby nightclub on August 23, new details have come to the forefront regarding the cause of the chaos.

As per the Derbyshire police, there has been a commotion outside the nightclub that might have involved the bowler, who was then detained by the police on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

After Carse was filmed by the public during his detention by the police earlier this week, the England and Wales Cricket Board and the Cricket Regulator have since launched a deep investigation into the matter while immediately barring him from playing any domestic or national games.

Now, as per Telegraph Sport, a new detail has emerged where the Derbyshire police confirmed that they are now investigating an assault that was launched on the premises of the nightclub.

“We are investigating allegations of assault in Derby city centre. No arrests have yet been made, and the investigation is ongoing,” the policeman told Telegraph.

The police, however, have not confirmed the alleged involvement of Carse in the assault as they are progressing with the investigation. The Derby police, though, revealed an official statement on the arrest of Carse on Monday without any reported assault confirmation.

“A man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly in Derby city centre on Saturday night. However, the man was de-arrested shortly afterwards, having agreed to leave the area,” the statement read.

When can Carse play cricket again?

Carse was dropped from England’s squad for the second Test against Pakistan at Lord’s. He was playing in the County Championship for Durham before his detention by the police. 

For Durham, he featured against Derbyshire in the August 20 match in County Championship Division Two, picking two wickets from two innings. Although Durham has their next fixture against Gloucestershire on 27th of August, Carse will not be present for the game.

As earlier incidents suggest, Ben Stokes and Gus Atkinson were also out of the cricketing scene till the ECB and Cricket Regulator handed out their verdict on the players. As things appear now, Brydon Carse is likely out of cricket in the foreseeable future.

If he is cleared before September 9, he will have the opportunity to be in the Playing XI for England against Pakistan at Birmingham. Leaping that date would only give him an opportunity in the Test whites in December against South Africa.

How should England cope without Brydon Carse against Pakistan?

With the 31-year-old cricketer having taken 58 wickets and scored 357 runs for England in Tests, the Three Lions might have to depend on the replacement brought in for him, Sonny Baker. 

The pace department will therefore consist of Jofra Archer, Gus Atkinson, and either Sonny Baker or Josh Tongue. Although conditions at Lord’s favour both pace and spin, there is a possibility that England might opt for a four-man pace attack, including both Baker and Tongue.

Till now, Carse had emerged as a solid prospect for England in the pace department. However, his absence will now push Baker into the spotlight, with the 23-year-old having impressed during his bustling red-ball career. 

Sonny Baker took 25 wickets in just 11 innings while playing for Hampshire in County Championship Division One and is expected to impress if placed in the Playing XI against Pakistan.
