Sunrisers Hyderabad had a forgettable game against Gujarat Titans, suffering a heavy defeat at the Narendra Modi Stadium. The Sunrisers were even reprimanded by one of the BCCI decision-makers following the conclusion of the one-sided contest.
Batting first, the Titans posted a respectable total of 168 runs, riding on valiant half-centuries from B Sai Sudharsan and Washington Sundar. In response, SRH were bowled out for 86 runs, losing the game convincingly by 82 runs.
SRH batters' ultra-aggressive approach backfire vs Gujarat Titans
Although GT posted a slightly under-par total of 168 runs, they had a potent bowling attack to defend it.
The pitch at Narendra Modi Stadium assisted the fast bowlers, and GT had a formidable pace battery comprising Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Kagiso Rabada and Jason Holder.
Therefore, the contest between the SRH batters and the Titans' bowlers was expected to be intriguing when Abhishek Sharma and Travis Head stepped out to the middle during the run chase.

However, the face-off turned out to be heavily one-sided in the Titans' favour, as their pace department ran through the Sunrisers' batting lineup.
Abhishek Sharma was cleaned up by Rabada, who also got the prized scalp of Ishan Kishan. Mohammed Siraj dismissed the in-form Travis Head for a duck, while Jason Holder dismantled the SRH middle and lower middle order by dismissing Heinrich Klaasen, Nitish Reddy and Shivang Kumar.
Thus, they were eventually bowled out for 86 runs, losing the game by a massive 82-run margin. After Gujarat Titans registered their eighth victory of the season, BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla slammed the SRH batters for a poor show in Ahmedabad.
BCCI vice-president criticises SRH batters' ultra-aggressive approach
BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla took to his official handle on social media platform X, criticising the SRH batters' approach during the run chase.
The BCCI top brass reckoned that the Sunrisers' batters should've mixed caution with aggression, as they were chasing a modest target of 160-odd runs.
He explained that it didn't make sense to throw wickets by playing rash shots when the target was achievable with normal cricket.
"Jab sirf 160 runs hi banane hain toh aate hi chhakke jadne ki koshish kar wicket kyun gawane (When you only need to score 160 runs, why lose a wicket by trying to hit sixes right from the start?)," BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla posted.
The SRH batters are known for their bold and aggressive batting style. However, they should've played according to the situation against Gujarat Titans, a team with a robust bowling attack.
Had they negotiated the first few overs and switched gears later, the result could've been different.
Thus, the BCCI vice-president's assessment is absolutely spot on, and this is an area the Sunrisers batters would be looking to rethink following their defeat against GT.
