Sai Sudharsan Equals Virat Kohli's Special IPL Feat [Source: AFP]
Gujarat Titans opener Sai Sudharsan delivered yet another masterclass knock in the 56th match of the IPL 2026 season against Sunrisers Hyderabad. He achieved a personal milestone during the process that ranked him in the same company as star cricketer Virat Kohli.
SRH won the toss at Ahmedabad and opted to bowl first. Their decision was bang on as GT batters struggled hard to score on the tricky surface of the Narendra Modi Stadium.
Sai Sudharsan matches Virat Kohli’s feat
That being said, the Gujarat Titans lost two wickets in the powerplay, and their run rate dropped massively as SRH bowlers tightened the screws. However, Sai Sudharsan held one end.
He scored a gritty half-century before getting dismissed on 61 off 44 balls by Sakib Hussain. Not only that, but Sudharsan also crossed the 500-run mark in the IPL 2026 season.
With that, Sai Sudharsan has now completed three consecutive IPL seasons with 500 or more runs, achieving the feat in 2024, 2025 and 2026. The Gujarat Titans opener has equalled Kohli’s streak of three straight 500+ run campaigns from 2023 to 2025.
Only a handful of batters in IPL history have managed such remarkable consistency over multiple seasons. David Warner leads the chart with six consecutive 500+ run seasons, while KL Rahul achieved five in a row between 2018 and 2022.
Players to score 500+ runs in most consecutive IPL seasons
- 6 - David Warner (2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2019, 2020)
- 5 - KL Rahul (2018, 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022)
- 3 - Chris Gayle (2011, 2012, 2013)
- 3 - Shikhar Dhawan (2019, 2020, 2021)
- 3 - Virat Kohli (2023, 2024, 2025)
- 3 - Sai Sudharsan (2024, 2025, 2026)
But for Sai Sudharsan, to be ranked in the same category as these IPL legends is nothing short of a remarkable achievement. Owing to his form, GT are also riding high on confidence.

Sai Sudharsan gets the Orange Cap
Having said that, after the knock of 61 off 44 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad, Sai Sudharsan has topped the highest run-scorer of the season list.
In 12 games, he has scored 501 runs at 41.75 average and 155.10 strike rate, including a century and five fifties. With that, Sudharsan will hold the Orange Cap for the time being.
Interestingly, in IPL 2025, Sai Sudharsan won the Orange Cap race with 759 runs. This year as well, he has carried the same form and is now gunning for the second Orange Cap of his brief IPL career.
If Sai is able to maintain the same form, it will help the Gujarat Titans make a deep playoff run in IPL 2026.
Washington Sundar guides GT to a respectable total
That being said, Gujarat Titans had to toil hard to put runs on the board against SRH. Sai Sudharsan played the anchor role with 61 off 44 balls. However, that wasn’t enough, as GT needed a strong finish to get to a respectable total.

Meanwhile, for SRH, Praful Hinge bowled brilliantly, getting 2 wickets for just 17 runs. Pat Cummins and Sakib Hussain also contributed with three wickets combined. However, Eshan Maling was expensive, as he conceded 48 runs in his 4 overs.
