Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been called up by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in India squad for the upcoming T20I series in Ireland and England. Aged 15, the Rajasthan Royals opener will become the youngest Indian cricketer to make his debut if he gets selected in the playing XI at any stage of the two tours.
In lieu of Sooryavanshi’s maiden international call, the BCCI has now taken a creative decision to ensure that the youngster gets the necessary help on the tour.
BCCI Allows Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's Parents To Travel To England
The BCCI has decided to make a special exemption for young Vaibhav Sooryavanshi ahead of India’s upcoming white-ball series in Ireland and England.
While speaking on Sportstar, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia said that the board will allow Sooryavanshi’s parents to accompany him to Ireland and England. He believes that with parents around, the 15-year-old will find it a bit easier to get adjusted to the new environment.

Devajit Saikia said “As he is a child, we have decided to allow his parents to accompany him to Ireland and England, so that they can be with him and help him settle in the new environment. The Board will cover all their expenses.”
It is worth noting that the BCCI generally prevents Indian players from going on overseas tours with their family and relatives. The rule came into effect last year after India’s disastrous Test tour of Australia.
When Sachin Tendulkar received a similar treatment
Back in late 1989, then teenager Sachin Tendulkar also received a similar treatment by the Indian board ahead of his debut international tour of Pakistan. At the time, it was the brother of a 16-year-old Tendulkar who travelled with him and offered him reassurance through the biggest moment of his life.
Roughly 37 years later, it is now Vaibhav Sooryavanshi who has been granted the same courtesy by the top brass of Indian cricket.
A look at India squad for Ireland, England tours
Apart from selecting Vaibhav Sooryavanshi for his maiden international tour, the BCCI also made a slew of some radical changes in the squad. For instance, the Indian selection committee just dropped T20 World Cup winning skipper Suryakumar Yadav owing to his poor form.
The Indian T20I team will now be helmed by Punjab Kings skipper and comeback man Shreyas Iyer. Mumbai Indians star Tilak Varma is set to serve as his deputy. The squad also features several star performers like Mohammed Siraj, Arshdeep Singh, Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube among others.
Here is a look at the entire India squad for the upcoming T20I series in Ireland and England.
