Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has become one of the biggest talking points in IPL 2026. At just 15 years old, he is playing fearless cricket and breaking several records. Because of his aggressive batting and confidence against top bowlers, he has caught the attention of fans and former players alike.
However, despite his success, a controversy has now emerged around him and his team, Rajasthan Royals.
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Impressive Career
Notably, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s cricket career continues to grow rapidly. The Bihar batter has already proven his talent in both domestic cricket and the IPL.
In List A cricket, he has scored 353 runs in just 8 matches. In T20 cricket, he has been even more impressive. He has scored 1105 runs in 28 matches with an outstanding strike rate of over 215. He also has four centuries and three half-centuries to his name.
It is worth noting that he made history by becoming the youngest player to score a century in the IPL during his debut season in 2025. Due to such performances, there are reports suggesting that he might soon be included in India’s squad for upcoming T20I series, possibly against Ireland.
If that happens, he could break major records. Notably, he might become the youngest male player to debut for India, beating Sachin Tendulkar’s record.
Rajasthan Royals Given Warning
However, recently, an activist appeared on a Kannada TV channel and made a strong statement. He said that if Vaibhav Sooryavanshi continues to play, he would file a police complaint or FIR against Rajasthan Royals.
In a video that later went viral online, the activist argued that a 15-year-old should not be playing professional cricket. He claimed that allowing him to play could be considered child labour and said,
“Don’t let this boy play IPL cricket — he should be studying instead.”
What Indian Child Labour Law Actually Says
This has raised questions about Indian child labour laws. According to The Child Labour (Prohibition & Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016, children below the age of 14 are not allowed to work in most jobs. However, enforcing this law can be difficult in practice.
At the same time, it is important to understand that sports are generally treated differently. Playing professional sports is not usually classified as child labour, which makes this situation legally unclear but widely debated.
