Rajasthan Royals had a forgettable game on Friday night, as Delhi Capitals defeated them by seven wickets in the 43rd group-stage match of the tournament.

Young batter Vaibhav Sooryavanshi registered a rare failure, with Kyle Jamieson getting his prized scalp early in the innings.

However, despite the in-form batter's early exit, captain Riyan Parag struck a belligerent 90-run knock, powering his side to 225 runs.

But unfortunately for the Royals, the target proved insufficient for Delhi Capitals, who chased it comfortably with five balls and seven wickets to spare.

Amid the fireworks from KL Rahul, Pathum Nissanka and Riyan Parag, an incident that grabbed the attention of fans was Kyle Jamieson's aggressive send-off to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi after dismissing him in the second over.

After winning the toss, RR captain Riyan Parag opted to bat first at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium. His decision proved disastrous for the home team, as Mitchell Starc dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal in the very first over.

While the Royals had expected Vaibhav Sooryavanshi to bail them out of trouble, the promising batter was castled by Kyle Jamieson for four runs.

As he cleaned up the in-form batter with an in-swinging yorker, Jamieson was ecstatic and ran towards Sooryavanshi to give him a brutal send-off. The incident sparked a fresh controversy, gaining mixed reactions from fans and critics.

Rajasthan Royals coach reacts to Jamieson's wild celebration

After Delhi Capitals chased the monumental target and secured their fourth victory of the season, Rajasthan Royals batting coach Vikram Rathour broke silence on Kyle Jamieson's aggressive celebration following Vaibhav Sooryavanshi's dismissal.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, the former Team India coach said that it was natural from Jamieson's perspective to get excited after dismissing a match-winner like Sooryavanshi.

Rathour reckoned that if an established player like Jamieson celebrated the dismissal of a 15-year-old kid, Vaibhav Sooryavanshi would surely take it as a compliment.

"A good ball fell in the beginning, so he can also get out. He had a bit of a cramp, I think, but he is fine. So, obviously, he [Jamieson] was excited, and that is a compliment for Vaibhav that people are finding that he is so happy after getting him out. So, that is a compliment for Vaibhav. The strategy will remain the same," Rathour said in the post-match press conference.

Vikram Rathour speaks on Sooryavanshi's rare failure

Notably, Sooryavanshi has lit up the IPL 2026 with a string of breathtaking performances. Before RR's face-off with DC, he had struck 400 runs across nine innings with three fifty-plus scores, including a hundred.

However, he recorded a rare failure against the Capitals, as Jamieson cleaned him up for four runs.

Reacting to Sooryavanshi's early exit against DC, Vikram Rathour said that the teenager became the victim of an extraordinary delivery, emphasising the team can't always rely on the southpaw to succeed.

"Getting out can be anyone's turning point, but not everyone can make runs every time, and we shouldn't have any expectations from Vaibhav that he will score every time. He is playing well. Wherever he is getting a chance and a start, he is converting those starts," Rathour said.

RR to take on GT next in IPL 2026

The defeat to Delhi Capitals marked RR's fourth loss in ten IPL 2026 matches. Led by Riyan Parag, the Royals will cross swords against Gujarat Titans in their eleventh group-stage fixture on May 9 at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur.
