BCB will issue a show-cause notice to women's coach [Source: AFP]Bangladesh Cricket Board are set to issue a show-cause notice to its Women’s team head coach Sarwar Imran, following his comments about the problems with Bangladesh Women’s cricket earlier on Tuesday.Sarwar had openly criticised the board after their failure to clinch any medal at the Asian Games 2026. They lost to Pakistan by 31 runs in the Bronze Medal match, missing out on the Asian Games podium for the first time in their history.Bangladesh coach calls out BCBEarlier on Tuesday afternoon at Korgoi Sports Park in Nisshin, Bangladesh were asked to chase 146 runs after Fatima Sana’s well-made 45 off 30. Following just a 24-run powerplay, Bangladesh never looked in the match and were restricted to 114/7.Dissecting the performance, Sarwar Imran took shots at the weak developmental structure for women’s cricket in the country and also blamed the negative media coverage since the Asia Cup for unsettling the team.“You look at any team; they are hitting sixes easily, but our team can’t even hit sixes. The media have written plenty of things like coach or captain changes, etc. But have we once said anything officially?" Rafiqul said.“We told Sarwar Imran that once he returns, we will discuss how we can improve things. The head coach said that I declared that the captain will not be there anymore. That is not right, which is why a show-cause notice will be issued," he added.Bangladesh coach suggests several grassroots changes in women’s cricketBangladesh Women’s defeat in the Bronze Medal match meant that, for the first time in their four entries in the Asian Games, the return was without a podium finish. In Guangzhou 2010 and Incheon 2014, they returned home with a silver medal each, and the Hangzhou 2023 edition ended with a Bronze Medal.According to the coach, this is a fair reflection of how women’s cricket is being looked at in the country.
