Bangladesh are set to face Pakistan in a highly anticipated two-match Test series starting May 8 in Dhaka. These two tests are part of the World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle and both teams have reached the venue with preparations underway.
The focus remains firmly on combinations, pitch conditions, and execution. Bangladesh will be eager to capitalize on home conditions, while Pakistan aim to counter and gain valuable points in their goal to lift the WTC trophy.
Amid this growing anticipation and steady build-up around the series, the BCB has taken fresh steps, hinting at a change in the coaching setup in order to ensure Bangladesh get the best out of themselves and beat Pakistan in upcoming two Tests.
Bangladesh Appoint New Fielding Coach Ahead Of Pakistan Test Series
Bangladesh have made a key adjustment to their coaching staff ahead of the two-match Test series against Pakistan, appointing Ashiqur Rahman Majumder as the fielding coach. The move comes as part of last-minute preparations with both teams already in Dhaka.
Ashiqur brings valuable domestic experience, having worked with multiple teams across Bangladesh’s cricket circuit. He was most recently part of Dhaka Capitals in the BPL 2026, where he stepped in as assistant coach midway through the tournament.
Notably, this test series against Pakistan marks his first assignment with Bangladesh, stepping into a bigger role with regular fielding coach James Pamment unavailable. Bangladesh will hope his fresh approach and familiarity with local conditions can positively impact their fielding performance in the upcoming Test series.

Bangladesh’s Recent Form And Build-Up Before Pakistan Tests
Bangladesh head into this two-match Test series after completing their white-ball series against New Zealand at home, where they won the ODI series 2-1 and drew the T20I series 1-1, with one match washed out due to rain.
Before that, Bangladesh hosted Pakistan in an ODI series and secured an impressive 2-1 victory. That result will boost confidence within the squad, as they prepare to take on the same opposition again, this time in the longest format of the game.
Bangladesh Look To Climb WTC Standings With Fresh Approach
Bangladesh will aim to improve their position in the World Test Championship 2025–27 cycle, where they currently sit eighth with four points from two matches. Under captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, the team is focusing on building consistency in the longest format.
The squad also features promising new faces like Amite Hasan, who has impressed in domestic cricket with a strong first-class average of 49.32, along with Tanzid Hasan, already a regular in white-ball formats and steadily adapting to red-ball cricket.
Notably, their last WTC series was against Sri Lanka last year where they could only get a draw from two matches. However, having previously defeated Pakistan in consecutive Tests in 2024, they will look to replicate that success and make a strong statement in the ongoing cycle.
