The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has raised concerns about the involvement of the Bangladesh government in the board’s internal matters. The issue began after the country’s sports ministry created a committee to investigate alleged problems during the 2025 BCB elections.
The board has warned that such involvement may create serious consequences for Bangladesh cricket at the international level. The concern mainly relates to the rules of the International Cricket Council (ICC), which closely monitors government involvement in cricket boards.
BCB asks authorities to dissolve the committee
The situation has now moved beyond a simple domestic dispute and has drawn international attention. The Bangladesh Cricket Board has asked the country’s sports authorities to dissolve the five-member investigation committee that was formed to examine possible irregularities in the 2025 election.
According to Cricbuzz report, the committee was created to investigate claims of “irregularities, manipulation and abuse of power” during the re-election of Aminul Islam as BCB president. The committee received a deadline of 15 working days starting from March 11 to complete its investigation.

Meanwhile, the BCB stated that the creation of such a committee may raise questions about the independence and stability of the board’s administration. As a result, the board has expressed concern that the investigation could be interpreted as government interference.
BCB willing to hold discussions with the sports ministry
At the same time, the Bangladesh Cricket Boardclarified that it remains open to discussions with the sports ministry. In its official statement, the board said it is ready to talk about the “context, intent, and possible implications of the gazette” that announced the investigation committee.
Therefore, the board hopes that open communication will help resolve the matter while protecting the independence of Bangladesh cricket administration.
ICC has been informed about the situation
The Bangladesh Cricket Board also revealed that the matter has already been informally discussed with senior leaders of the ICC. According to the board, ICC representatives indicated that any development which appears to interfere with a democratically elected cricket board may create governance concerns within the international cricket system.
For this reason, the BCB stressed that the issue must be handled carefully and transparently. The board believes that responsible action is necessary in order to protect Bangladesh cricket’s standing at the global level.
Following these concerns, the Bangladesh Cricket Board has formally asked the National Sports Council to dissolve the investigation committee. The board believes that closing the matter will help maintain the stability, independence, and continued progress of Bangladesh cricket.
The controversy around the election started after former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal accused Aminul Islam of interfering in the election process.
The accusation followed a letter signed by Aminul that requested the sports ministry to change councelors from certain districts before the election took place. Tamim also claimed that the BCB extended the nomination deadline twice during the election process.
In addition, tensions increased within the cricket community. Reports indicated that several clubs in Dhaka, especially those in Category-2 of the electoral system, declared the current board illegal. These clubs even boycotted the 2025–26 Dhaka league competitions.
It is important to note that in the past, the ICC has taken strong action against countries where governments interfered in cricket administration. For example, cricket boards in Zimbabwe and Sri Lanka were suspended after similar situations occurred.
