Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been hit with a fresh legal trouble, coinciding with the national team’s exuberant series performance against Pakistan. As many as 12 cricketing individuals, including former cricketers and officials, have filed a writ petition in Bangladesh’s High Court Division of the Supreme Court.

The petition was filed to challenge the dissolution of the previously-elected executive committee of the BCB, and the subsequent formation of an ad hoc committee. The current ad hoc committee is led by former Bangladesh captain Tamim Iqbal, who replaced ousted BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul.

Former Bangladesh cricketers and cricket officials like Aminul Islam Bulbul, Faruque Ahmed, Asif Akbar, and Khaled Mashud Pilot among others have filed a writ petition in the High Court Division of Bangladesh’s Supreme Court.

The petitioners are challenging the legality of the dissolution of the previously elected BCB governing body. It is worth noting that the previous BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul was axed from his role earlier this year amidst a wave of multiple resignations within the board.

Some reports even indicated that Aminul was booted out owing to Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 fiasco with the BCCI and the ICC.

The petitioners are also challenging the formation of the BCB ad hoc committee led by Tamim Iqbal. The former Bangladesh captain was named Aminul’s replacement, thus becoming the youngest to lead the BCB, doing so at the age of just 37.

As reported by the Daily Sun, the petitioners are arguing that the sudden replacement of an elected committee with an ad hoc committee undermines the democratic process of Bangladesh’s cricket administration.

BCB set to face legal wrath this month

The case has already been assigned to a bench comprising Justice Fatema Najib and Justice AFM Saiful Karim. Another major update indicate that the bench has already granted permission to proceed with the legal matter.

Several legal sources claim that the BCB’s legal troubles could escalate further, with the matter likely to be presented for a formal hearing within a week.

Why was Aminul Islam axed from BCB?

BCB President Aminul Islam Bulbul was axed mere days after the board was hit by six resignations within a week back in early April. Moreover, back in January this year, Ishtiaque Sadeque also resigned as a BCB director and cited “personal reasons” behind his decision.

The BCB was already facing scrutiny by an investigation committee of National Sports Council (NSC), primarily owing to Aminul Islam’s alleged involvement in a controversial board election that took place last year.

Bangladesh’s T20 World Cup 2026 fiasco with India and the ICC was also reportedly considered as one of the other reasons behind the previous committee’s dissolution.

An ad hoc committee, led by Tamim Iqbal, subsequently took over the BCB until fresh elections take place. The committee also includes another former Bangladesh captain Minhajul Abedin, Athar Ali Khan Rashna Imam, Mirza Yeasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khasru, Tanjil Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam and Fahim Sinha.
