The India Tour of Bangladesh 2026 has been on hold for quite some time now. The major reason it’s not happening is Bangladesh’s withdrawal from the T20 World Cup 2026, co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka.

With three ODIs and three T20Is, India were originally scheduled to tour Bangladesh in September this year. However, due to the concerning geopolitical relationship between India and Bangladesh, the India tour of Bangladesh 2026 has not received any clarification.

Tamim Iqbal Reacts To India Tour Of Bangladesh 2026 Possibility

Earlier, BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia shared his thoughts on the possible India vs Bangladesh white-ball series.

On Wednesday, the current president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), who is also the greatest opener of the country, Tamim Iqbal, broke his silence about his opinion on the India Tour of Bangladesh 2026.

There, Tamim confirmed that the BCB and the BCCI are having a discussion about the possible white-ball series between India and Bangladesh.

“Unfortunately, I don't have any news regarding the India series. I am in discussions with the BCCI and there's an exchange of emails happening between BCB members, and we are trying from all quarters. Bangladesh's series against India, the excitement is at a different level, I'm sure from journalists, from fans, cricketers, everyone,” Tamim said, as quoted by Cricbuzz.

Furthermore, Tamim admitted that he is ‘hopeful’ about the India tour of Bangladesh 2026 happening, and highlighted the safety and security inside the country.

“Bangladesh is an extremely safe country, and I am very hopeful that they will come. Whatever steps need to be taken from our side, we are trying. But one thing we all need to understand — I am the BCB president, and there is also a line that I should never cross. So from my position, whatever is possible to do within my responsibility, I am talking to people, I am trying to tell them what advantages there are with the India series and all those things," he added.

Tamim Reveals Positive BCB-BCCI Talks

Previously, Tamim assured that he would do his part to restore the relationship between India and Bangladesh after a sudden decline. As things stood on Wednesday, it can be safe to say that Tamim did his bit to make it happen.

“There are certain things that are beyond my control. The discussions I've had so far have been very positive discussions. They also have to make a decision. Very soon, perhaps, we will find out whether the series is happening or not. So we will know very soon,” he concluded.

Tamim Iqbal was recently appointed to the role of the ICC franchise league committee chair. Provided that Jay Shah, currently the ICC president, is from India only, the relationship between India and Bangladesh is growing once again, leading to the possibility of the India tour of Bangladesh in 2026 happening in the same quarter later this year.
