India's proposed white-ball tour of Bangladesh in 2026 remains uncertain, but the BCCI has provided a major development regarding the much-awaited series.
The Indian team was originally scheduled to visit Bangladesh in August 2025 for a series consisting of three ODIs and three T20Is. However, the tour was later postponed to September 2026 following discussions between the two cricket boards (BCCI and BCB).
Although the BCB has earlier initiated talks regarding the series but the BCCI on the other hand has not yet provided any official approval.
The Indian board has also made it clear that any decision regarding the series will depend on guidance from the Government of India amid ongoing political and diplomatic tensions between the two neighbouring nations.

It is vital to note that the ‘Men in Blue’ was initially set to travel to Bangladesh in August 2025 for a six-match white-ball series.

In 2025, the BCCI announced that the series was postponed due to international commitments and scheduling considerations for both teams. The board also confirmed that the series would be shifted to 2026.
However, as of now, no board has made the series official.
Devajit Saikia Makes Big Claim On India Tour of Bangladesh 2026
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia recently addressed the situation and explained the board's position regarding India's proposed tour of Bangladesh.
According to Saikia (in a video shared by PTI), the BCCI's responsibility is limited to managing cricket, while decisions involving international travel and participation are guided by the policies of the Government of India.
"The BCCI is a cricketing controlling board, and we have nothing to do with what is going on politically in other countries. As the BCCI, we follow whatever policy the Government of India has in place regarding participation in bilateral and multinational sporting events.
"Whatever regulations and policies the central government frames, we follow them, just like any other sports federation, whether it is football, athletics or any other sport."
"We are not concerned with who is running the government in a particular country, whether it is democratically elected, undemocratically elected or an autocratic government. That is none of our business. Our job is to run cricket. Whenever there is a scheduled tour to a foreign country for bilateral matches, we will proceed according to our plans and schedules."

His comments indicate that the BCCI will make a final decision on the Bangladesh tour only after receiving the necessary directions and approvals from the Indian Government.
India And Bangladesh Poor Cricketing Relations
It is important to note that the relationship between both the cricket boards became strained after Bangladesh decided not to participate in matches scheduled in India during the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026.
The Bangladesh government cited security concerns and player safety as the primary reasons behind its decision. The BCB also requested the ICC to move all of Bangladesh’s matches to co-host Sri Lanka.
One of the major flashpoints came earlier in 2026 when IPL franchise KKR released Bangladeshi fast bowler Mustafizur Rahman from his contract.
As a result, Bangladesh withdrew from the tournament, creating one of the biggest controversies in recent international cricket.
