When a 19-year-old Lhuan-dre Pretorius joined Rajasthan Royals in the middle of IPL 2025, he came as a replacement for an injured Nitish Rana. Later on, the inaugural IPL champions retained him for IPL 2026 at INR 30 lakh, keeping in mind that he can be a long-term investment for the years to come.

Fast forward to the middle of 2026, and it appears that RR were right about the vision around Pretorius. As someone who can keep wickets as well, coupled with explosive batting at the top, it seems like South Africa have found a gem for the T20 World Cup 2028.

Even though Rickelton batted No. 3 in the T20 World Cup 2026, and Markram and Rickelton played as the openers, it can be safe to say that dre Pretorius will get his place in the T20 World Cup 2028 if things don’t fall back in the coming months.

Nevertheless, all in all, South Africa desperately wanted someone like dre Pretorius in the mix. His profile is very similar to Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who can go all guns blazing from ball one and suits the modern-day ultra-aggressive batting approach.

His international career might be young, but Pretorius is on his way to becoming another traditional South African wicket-keeper who is here to stay.
