The relations between the BCCI and BCB have taken a significant hit in recent months due to various off-the-field reasons, which also led to India cancelling their white-ball tour to Bangladesh in 2025. Later, Bangladesh also declined to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026.

Amid the turmoil, Bangladesh also went through a civil war between its players and the BCB, with players openly revolting against the office-bearers. This led to the former captain and opener Tamim Iqbal taking charge as their new president, who has now spoken on the potential bilateral series with India later this year.

Tamim Iqbal looks to repair relations with the BCCI

The India tour of Bangladesh, which was initially supposed to happen in 2025, was rescheduled to 2026 due to the political tensions in Bangladesh. However, after BCCI refused Mustafizur Rahman to participate in the IPL and what followed in the build-up to the T20 World Cup, it has dented the cricket relations of the two countries.

Additionally, the geopolitical differences continue to exist to date, which is not a good sign for the 2026 series. Regardless of all this, Bangladesh unilaterally announced the series earlier this month, and BCB chair Tamim Iqbal has opened up on trying to fix the issues between the two boards.

"I am very hopeful. Issues will always be there, and it is the responsibility of the cricket boards to solve them. We have a new cricket board now, an ad hoc committee has been placed, and I am sure communication and dialogue will happen," Tamim Iqbal told TOI.

"At the end of the day, cricket should win. Regardless of anything else, cricket should always win, and that is what I am going to work towards. I do not think India and Bangladesh cricketing relations have any issues. If there are any, we can always discuss and solve them. I am very hopeful that India will travel to Bangladesh," he added.

Will India travel to Bangladesh for the 2026 series?

As per BCCI's official website, when the 2025 series was postponed, they were open to going to Bangladesh for the series. Also, the appointment of Tamim Iqbal as the president has seen the former player excited for the series.

"There is a scheduled series against India later this year. I am very hopeful that India will come and play the whole series. This is one bilateral series that the people of Bangladesh really enjoy watching," he said.

"They come to the ground, and there is healthy competition. Bangladesh did really well in the last series against India. Whenever these two nations play, especially when India travels to Bangladesh, it is always very high-intensity cricket," Tamim concluded.

Regardless of Tamim Iqbal trying to solve the differences, there are no clear signs from the BCCI about their willingness to send the Indian team for the series. Currently, they are preparing for the India A and India U19 tour of Sri Lanka in June and July, followed by a few other series.

There has been no official word on the Bangladesh tour, but with how things have gone over the past 12 months, the chances of the tour happening are currently bleak.

India tour of Bangladesh 2026 schedule

As per the unilaterally announced tour, India and Bangladesh will take on each other in September 2026. There are three ODIs and three T20Is scheduled to be played, and this was also said in the BCCI's press release back in 2025.

While Tamim Iqbal is openly welcoming the neighbours, whether or not India goes for the series currently remains under the scanner.
