Bangladesh could not have dreamed of a better result than what happened on Sunday before returning to Australia to play a Test match there after 23 years. In fact, it will go down in cricket history as one of the most monumental events.

In the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) cycle, Australia, led by none other than Pat Cummins, had only one defeat (to England in the Ashes) and seven victories in eight matches before the start of Bangladesh's tour of Australia.

Bangladesh then produced the biggest upset of all, securing a nine-wicket victory at Darwin’s Marrara Cricket Ground, with Hasan Mahmud setting the platform for the outcome and eventually winning the Player of the Match award.

Bangladesh Keep WTC Dream Alive

Bangladesh have played five Tests in the ongoing WTC table, and of them, they have now three matches. The PCT is very impressive (66.67), and to highlight this further, they are in a better position there than Asia’s biggest superpower, India.

For those who are unaware, this is the fourth edition of WTC, which began in 2019. Every time, the two top teams play in the final, and it has always been a two-year cycle: 2019-2021, 2021-2023, 2023-2025, and now 2025-2027.

Therefore, if Bangladesh, who are currently fourth on the WTC table, finish among the top two teams, they will have the chance to eventually win the whole damn thing.

Bangladesh’s WTC Schedule: What Lies Ahead?

As mentioned before, Bangladesh have been in action for five Tests so far in the ongoing WTC cycle. They will once again play Australia, this time at the Great Barrier Reef Arena in Mackay.

After that, Bangladesh will have six Tests against three different teams: West Indies, South Africa and England.

  • 2 Tests, South Africa vs Bangladesh At Away - (November 15-27, 2026, Confirmed Schedule)
  • 2 Tests, Bangladesh vs England At Home - Tentative Window (February 2027)

Bangladesh's Most Famous Test Victories

However, this was not the first time Bangladesh made a remarkable achievement in Test cricket. In 2024, they defeated Pakistan by all 10 wickets when they met in Rawalpindi.

Prior to that, in 2022, Bangladesh secured a historic first-ever Test win in New Zealand when they thumped Tom Latham and his boys by eight wickets at Bay Oval, Mount Maunganui.

The most landmark victory for Bangladesh in Tests will always be their victory at Arnos Vale Ground, Kingstown, St Vincent, in 2009. It was their first-ever Test win away from home, and it came against the West Indies.

Tamim Iqbal, who currently holds the position of Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) President, won the Player of the Match there, having made 128 in the second innings. There, they won by 95 runs.
