Rain ruined the fun on day 1 of the India vs Sri Lanka Galle Test match, and the start of day 2 was also marred by rain, leaving the riveting Test match in jeopardy. The two-match series holds utmost importance for both sides, and it could determine where India and Sri Lanka finish in the WTC points tally.
Fans from both sides expected a competitive battle in Galle, but if the weather report is to be believed, then all five days will be hampered by rain, and it could spoil India’s chances of reaching the WTC final next year.
IND Vs SL, 1st Test weather report for remaining days
According to AccuWeather, the remaining four days of the IND-SL 1st Test in Galle will also be marred by rain, and a couple of days could even be washed out.
The weather report states that there is a 66% chance of rain on Sunday, and the cloud cover will be around 77%. As per AccuWeather, the situation gets worse on Day 3, with an 81% chance of rain, and the entire day is expected to be abandoned on Monday.
On Day 4 and Day 5, the rain probability is reduced to 55 and 56%, respectively, but the rain threat will loom large as all the remaining days of the first Test will be spoiled by rain god.

As the WTC table shows, India’s position in the WTC points table won’t change, as they would remain fifth, but their PCT would drop, which could derail their WTC final charge.
Currently, India’s WTC PCT is 48.15, but if the Galle Test gets abandoned due to rain, the Shubman Gill-led side will only get 4 points for a drawn game, and their overall PCT would decline.
India’s position will remain the same, but a win against Sri Lanka will give India 12 points. However, if rain spoils the Test match and the game gets washed out, India will only receive 4 points, 8 fewer than what they would have got after winning.
Also, with Bangladesh winning against Australia, the Tigers will create a gap between them and India in terms of PCT, and unlike India, Bangladesh’s WTC position will be strengthened.

In an unexpected turn of events, Bangladesh stunned Australia in the first Test in Darwin to take a surprising 1-0 lead in the series.
The Asian side won their first-ever Test in Australia, and that has strengthened their position in the WTC final race. Before the Australia game, Bangladesh had a PCT of 58.33, but after the win, it has jumped to 66.67, and they have created a major gap with the Indian side.
While the win over Australia has helped Bangladesh further strengthen their position, it has given a dent to India, who now have to win 7 out of 8 Tests to qualify for the finals.
