How Bangladesh vs West Indies Can Shape Up the WTC Status of Both Teams

Bangladesh have won three of their six Tests in the current World Test Championship cycle and sit fourth with 40 points and a 55.56 PCT. That puts them firmly in contention for the WTC final, making these home Tests particularly important for their qualification hopes.

A strong result against West Indies could strengthen Bangladesh’s position before their remaining assignments. They will travel to South Africa for two Tests in near future, followed by a home Test series against England next year.

With a total of four Tests still to come after the West Indies series, winning this two-match series will be very valuable for Bangladesh, as they have a realistic opportunity to push for a place in next year’s World Test Championship final.

For the West Indies, the series is equally important but for a different reason. They currently sit eighth after 12 Tests, with only two wins, so taking points in Bangladesh would help them improve their position.

Bangladesh and West Indies' Recent Form in Test cricket

Bangladesh enter the series in prolific Test form, having won three of their last five matches. Their recent results include a notable away victory against Australia, highlighting their improved performance in the longest format.

West Indies, meanwhile, have struggled comparatively throughout the current WTC cycle. However, they have secured their only two wins of the cycle in their last five Tests, while also drawing one match against Sri Lanka during that period.

West Indies' overall Test Record in Bangladesh before 2026 tour

The upcoming Bangladesh vs West Indies series will be the first Test tour of Bangladesh for the West Indies since 2021. West Indies secured a 2-0 series victory last time they played a Test series in Bangladesh, including their remarkable 395-run chase in Chattogram.

That historic win was powered by Kyle Mayers’ unbeaten double century. Overall, West Indies have played 10 Tests in Bangladesh, winning seven, losing two and drawing one, giving them a mental edge over the hosts ahead of the upcoming series.
