Former Pakistan captain Wasim Akram raised his voice over the ongoing concerns surrounding Imran Khan's health. The legendary pacer spoke about his former captain and mentor, adding another major voice to the growing support for the 1992 World Cup-winning skipper.

The latest comments from Akram come at a time when Imran Khan's situation has attracted significant attention from the cricket fraternity. Several former and current cricketers have already raised concerns, and Akram is now the latest high-profile name to join them.

Wasim Akram calls out Pakistan government for mistreating Imran Khan

A significant development came last month when Imran Khan’s health reportedly deteriorated due to the Pakistan government's negligence, prompting Pakistan’s Supreme Court to order authorities to move him to a hospital for medical examination and treatment.

Following the latest developments surrounding Khan’s health, his former teammate Wasim Akram has now spoken out over the alleged mistreatment of Imran Khan by the Pakistan government.

“He is my friend, I miss him a lot. I haven't spoken to him for three years. It's so unfortunate, politically, what's happening with him. The court of law is the court of law. But as far as his health is concerned, there can be no compromise on that,” Akram told The Athletic.

Wasim Akram's comments highlight his continued concern for Imran Khan while also sending a clear message to the Pakistan government over his health. By stressing that there can be “no compromise” on Khan's health, he urged authorities to ensure his well-being is a must.

Wasim Akram Joins Growing Cricketing Support For Imran Khan

Imran Khan's health has drawn global attention recently, with several cricket legends calling for proper medical care for the former Pakistan captain. A group of 22 international captains wrote to Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif over Imran Khan's health.

The support has continued to grow, with Pakistan great Javed Miandad and Australia's Usman Khawaja, as well as Australia's Pat Cummins, also expressing concern over Imran Khan's health. West Indies legend Brian Lara recently joined the global appeal for proper medical care.

Wasim Akram has now joined these voices and calls out the Pakistan government over Imran Khan's health, stressing that there can be no compromise on his well-being.

Notably, Akram had also called out the Pakistan government for proper medical care for Imran Khan in February.

Wasim Akram’s Special Bond With Imran Khan

Wasim Akram and Imran Khan shared a special bond, having been teammates for nearly a decade. Together, they were part of Pakistan’s only World Cup triumph in 1992, with Imran leading the side as captain on that historic occasion.

Imran Khan was also among the biggest reasons Wasim Akram played for Pakistan. He played a major role in fast-tracking Akram into the senior side, recognising his raw talent and potential very early in his international career.

That bond explains why Wasim Akram still calls Imran a friend and remains deeply concerned about him. Akram revealed they spoke regularly after retirement, and believes Pakistan’s government should make no compromise over Imran’s health right now either.
