On Tuesday evening, Bangladesh won their first ODI fixture against Australia after 21 long years. Mosaddek Hossain and Nahid Rana emerged as the heroes in the first ODI at Mirpur.

Tanzid Hasan and Najmul Hossain Shanto laid the foundation in the first innings, before Mosaddek took off to slam his highest ODI score of 86 not out in his comeback game. This helped Bangladesh post 284/8.

With the ball, Bangladesh bowlers kept attacking throughout the innings. Nahid Rana was the reckon-in-chief with the ball, snapping four wickets in his spell. Mustafizur Rahman and Mosaddek also chipped in with two scalps apiece.

After the game, Nahid Rana received countless compliments for his terrorising bowling. The highlight moment for the right-arm speedster was when he made the Australian captain, Josh Inglis, nick behind to the keeper.

Frustrated after getting dismissed, Inglis lost his cool and had a spat on the field after the bowler celebrated animatedly.

Bangladesh skipper Mehidy Hasan Miraz had to intervene, which prevented the altercation from growing.

An official word on the Nahid Rana-Josh Inglis bicker has finally come from the Bangladesh camp.

Mosaddek Hossain, who bagged the Player of the Match in the 1st ODI, has backed the 23-year-old bowler by putting the blame on the Australian stand-in captain. However, he downplayed the situation as well, coining it as "misunderstanding and nothing serious"

“It was basically frustration from the batter after getting out. It was a misunderstanding, nothing serious. It’s better to leave what happens on the field, on the field," Mosaddek told the reporters in the post-match press conference.

Apart from getting Josh Inglis' wicket, Nahid also dismissed Alex Carey, Liam Scott and Xavier Bartlett. He returned with 4 for 41 in Mirpur; it was Rana’s third-best figures in his brief ODI career, where he has already taken two five-wicket hauls.

Sudden rise of Nahid Rana

Known for bowling thunderbolts, the speedster developed his game by grinding it hard in first-class cricket. His claim-to-fame moment came in 2022-23, taking 41 wickets in the season.

Soon, he was fast-tracked to the national side, but only became a household name by doing well in the PSL 2026 for Peshawar Zalmi.

So far, the right-arm quick has played 13 ODI matches to take 29 wickets at an average of 20.21.

Nahid Rana’s impressive spell against Australia in the first ODI at Mirpur earned him high praise from Alex Carey, who offered him a contract in the Big Bash League (BBL) for the Adelaide Strikers.

"He (Nahid Rana) can come to the Adelaide Strikers, if he wants," Alex Carey said after the match.

Nevertheless, Bangladesh and Rana will be in action again in the second BAN vs AUS ODI on Thursday (June 11) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur, Dhaka.
