Under the leadership of Shreyas Iyer and Ricky Ponting, Punjab Kings (PBKS) have turned themselves upside down to become a daunting side in the last two years. After finishing as runners-up, PBKS have been the best team in the IPL 2026, sitting at the top of the points table with half the season done.
The Kings tasted their first defeat of the season against the Rajasthan Royals (RR), when Yashasvi Jaiswal and Donovan Ferreira helped them cross over the line. In that game, Punjab pacers, especially Arshdeep Singh, had a poor night as 223 runs were chased down.
Although it was just a defeat, the Punjab players have taken it to heart.
Arshdeep Singh mocks Virender Sehwag
After the PBKS vs RR match, Arshdeep Singh indirectly fired shots at former Indian opener and ex-Punjab player & mentor, Virender Sehwag.
While sitting on Dream11's Live Show alongside Yuzvendra Chahal, the speedster mentioned that former cricketers and pundits in the commentary box and on cricketing shows want PBKS to lose.
"People are just waiting for Punjab Kings to lose in commentary box and cricketing shows, so that we can critisize us. However, we have a strong fanbase... people love us and it quite evident. We have been playing exceptionally well, but they got their chance to critisize us after the last game. We won't let them stay happy for too long, as we can make a strong comeback," Arshdeep Singh stated on Dream11's Watch Alongs.

Start of Virender Sehwag-Arshdeep Singh feud!
The Virender Sehwag-Arshdeep Singh saga began during the DC vs PBKS fixture, where the Kings achieved a historic chase by hunting down the target of 263 runs. Although the former opener went on to make fun of the team during the mid-innings and categorically stated that it wouldn't be chased.
As Punjab chased down the target, Arshdeep Singh mocked Sehwag in a video shared by the franchise.
"Some people were questioning us. They were saying after the first-innings it won't get chased, they can only dream of it," Ashdeep had said after DC vs PBKS.
Arshdeep Singh's performances in IPL 2026
Although Ashdeep Singh hasn't been having a good time with the ball. Barring a couple of performances here and there, the left-arm speedster has been a mere shadow of himself.
Even against RR, the PBKS seamer registered his poorest figures in the IPL, returning with 1/68 after his four overs. So far, he has taken just eight wickets in as many innings, with a woeful economy of nearly 11.
Having said that, the seamer is one of the most successful T20 bowlers in India. After 84 T20Is, he has taken 127 wickets - the most by any Indian bowler. Moreover, he has scalped 264 T20s wickets in 202 matches.
However, more than cricket, Ashdeep's personal life has been the talk of the town as the cricketer has been seen with his alleged girlfriend, Samreen Kaur, on multiple occasions.
Nevertheless, the left-armer will look to redeem himself in PBKS' next matches after the disastrous spell. The Kings will next be seen in action on Sunday (May 3) against the Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium.
