It is no-or-never for the Hardik Pandya-led Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026). After a long break, the five-time champions will take on the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai, on Wednesday (April 29).
In the the first seven matches, MI have won just two games and lost five. If MI want to bounce back, this is the time. To qualify from here, they would need to win 6 of 7 games. The five-time champions have it in them, as they have done so before.
Although they are coming off a massive defeat vs CSK, in what is called the IPL El Clásico. As the bowled first, Sanju Samson hammered the MI bowling with a majestic hundred. Later, Akeal Hosein demolished the tall and burly Mumbai batting. As a result, they lost the game to CSK by 103 runs after crumbling for 104/10.
Ahead of Mumbai's next game, let us look at how the MI Playing XI vs SRH could look like.
MI Playing XI vs SRH, IPL 2026, Match 41
Top Order: Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav
Rohit Sharma, who sustained a hamstring injury in MI vs RCB, is expected to return to the MI Playing XI vs SRH. The star opener is what Mumbai want in the hour of need. Rohit has been one of the positives for MI this season, and they would need their most experienced batter to step up in this do-or-die state. However, Rohit is expected to play as an Impact Player.
After hitting a century in his first game of the season, Quinton de Kock hasn't done much to be a part of the MI Playing XI. However, the Proteas batter loves batting with Rohit Sharma, and the two have brought the best out of each other while batting together.
Just like this season for Mumbai, Suryakumar Yadav has not had the best of times. In the previous game, he started to look good, but Akeal Hosein ended his stay on 36. However, the local boy will look forward to playing in Mumbai to regain his form and win a match for MI here.
Middle Order & All-Rounders: Naman Dhir, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Will Jacks, Sherfane Rutherford
In his topsy-turvy of a season, Naman Dhir has been a rare positive for the five-time champions. Although the aggressive middle-order batter was dismissed on a duck against Chennai, he will remain an integral part of the MI Playing vs SRH.
Tilak Varma scored a match-winning century for Mumbai this season, a couple of games ago. He remains a vital cog of this MI Playing XI, but the team management can’t disturb Varma’s entry point, as he needs some deliveries to settle in.
Hardik Pandya is undoubtedly a clutch player who can change the course of the game from any given situation. However, the MI captain has not been faring well in any department of the game. His captaincy decisions have been a point of debate, but he has yet to contribute both with ball and bat. But when the back is against the wall, Hardik Pandya always stands up.
With Mitchell Santner ruled out of the season, the team management will have a toss-up between Keshav Maharaj and Will Jacks. But considering the form of this MI line-up, they will be inclined towards playing the English all-rounder.
Sherfane Rutherford, the designated finisher in this MI Playing XI, needs to end the innings on a high. However, he hasn't been getting ample support from the rest of the batters, but he will be eager to repay the trust invested in him.
Bowlers: Shardul Thakur, Ashwani Kumar, Jasprit Bumrah
Ashwani Kumar, the find for MI in IPL 2025, has performed okayish so far. However, the young Punjab seamer will have to step up to the occasion as he is playing over the likes of Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar in the MI Playing XI vs SRH.
Shardul Thakur, who came in as a concussion substitute for Santner, will regain his spot and will play over the young Krish Bhagat. No disrespect to the young all-rounder, but MI at this stage needs a big match-winner.
Jasprit Bumrah has just taken two wickets in IPL 2026 so far, as he went wicketless in first five games. The Indian speedster has bowled decently this season, but the oppositions have negated the Bumrah threat nicely. However, what the legendary pacer would want more assistance from Ashwani and Shardul.
Allah Ghazanfar, who will play as an Impact Player, has been a true wicket-taker for Mumbai. With Santner out, the mystery spinner will become even more important to this MI Playing XI.
