Deepesh Devendran is a familiar name in Under-19 cricket and for India A, where the 18-year-old from Tamil Nadu has impressed with his bowling performances across several tournaments.
Currently playing in the Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2026 for Madurai Panthers, Devendran produced an impressive bowling spell that caught everyone's attention during the match against Trichy Grand Cholas on Wednesday.
Interestingly, it was Devendran's TNPL debut, and he returned with figures of 1/25 from his four overs in his maiden appearance in the tournament.

Devendran’s return in the Tamil Nadu Premier League has been extraordinary, and it was not just his bowling figures that impressed on debut.
During his spell, Deepesh Devendran consistently clocked speeds of over 140 kph. He dismissed Jaffar Jamal with a delivery that beat the batter's defence and crashed into the middle stump at 143 kph.
In the 16th over of the innings, Deepesh clocked 146 kph on the very first ball of the over and crossed the 140 kph mark three more times in the same over, troubling the batters with his pace while conceding just two runs.

Where Did Devendran Impress With His Bowling?
Devendran's last notable stint came during the Under-19 World Cup 2026, where he picked up six wickets from five innings at an economy rate of 6.68 and a strike rate of 31.00.
He produced a memorable spell in the final against England Under-19, claiming two wickets while conceding 64 runs. In the second semi-final against Afghanistan, he returned with the exact same figures after enduring a disappointing outing against Pakistan, where he went wicketless.
How Can Deepesh Devendran Be Looked At For Future Cricket?
Deepesh can soon become a national asset given his consistency and potential. Standing at six feet tall, he generates steep bounce while possessing genuine pace.
He first made headlines during India's Under-19 tour of Australia, where he picked up 10 wickets, including a stunning five-wicket haul in the first Youth Test in Brisbane. After returning from Australia, he continued his impressive run in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy, claiming 5/19 for Tamil Nadu.
His performances add to an already impressive résumé that also includes a terrific Under-19 Asia Cup campaign. During the 2025 Under-19 Asia Cup, Deepesh tore through opposition batting line-ups, taking 14 wickets from just five matches, including a five-wicket haul against Malaysia on December 16.
Can India Senior Team Rope In Deepesh?
Deepesh possesses serious talent with his disciplined line and length. He consistently hits the good-length area, generating bounce and pace with remarkable accuracy to trouble batters.
It may not be long before he becomes a regular in Tamil Nadu's Ranji Trophy side if he can adjust his stock length to be slightly fuller in red-ball cricket.
While his variations make him a dangerous weapon in white-ball cricket, he also has the attributes to excel in the longer format. Given India's ongoing search for quality fast bowlers, Deepesh Devendran could emerge as a promising option for the future, if not immediately.
