Finally, the wait is over! Galle Gallants are the champions of the Lanka Premier League (LPL 2026). They won their first-ever LPL title after beating Jaffna Kings by 5 wickets in the final on Saturday, August 8, 2026.

Galle Gallants’ bowlers Charith Asalanka and Eshan Malinga took three wickets each and helped bowl out Jaffna Kings for 123 runs. Galle then chased down the target in just 15.5 overs to lift the trophy.

With the 2026 season now complete, let's take a look at the LPL finals from 2020 to 2026 and see which teams won the title each year.

LPL Winners List: 2020 To 2026

LPL 2020: Jaffna Stallions (Winner), Galle Gladiators (Runner-up)

In LPL 2020, the final was played on December 16, 2020, at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Cricket Stadium in Hambantota. Jaffna Stallions won the toss and decided to bat first.

The Stallions posted an impressive 188/6 in 20 overs. Shoaib Malik played an important role in the middle order and made 46 runs off 35 balls. Dhananjaya de Silva also contributed with 33 from 20 balls. Dhananjaya Lakshan was Galle's best bowler, taking three wickets for 36 runs.

Galle Gladiators' chase got off to a disastrous start. They were reduced to 7/3 inside the first two overs. Bhanuka Rajapaksa and Azam Khan briefly gave Galle hope. However, they finished on 135/9, handing Jaffna Stallions a 53-run victory and the first LPL trophy.

LPL 2021: Jaffna Kings (Winner), Galle Gladiators (Runner-up)

The second LPL final was held on December 23, 2021, at the Mahinda Rajapaksa International Stadium in Hambantota. Jaffna Kings won the toss and chose to bat first.

The Kings produced a huge 201/3 in their 20 overs. Avishka Fernando led from the front and made 63 runs off 41 balls.

Galle aggressively began their chase; Danushka Gunathilaka smashed 54 from just 21 balls. However, his dismissal changed the game. Galle quickly lost three wickets in 13 balls, allowing Jaffna's bowlers to take control.

The Gladiators eventually finished on 178/9. Jaffna Kings won by 23 runs and lifted their first LPL title.

LPL 2022: Jaffna Kings (Winner), Colombo Stars (Runner-up)

The LPL 2022 final took place on December 23 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo.

Taking about the match, Jaffna Kings won the toss and decided to bowl first. Batting first, Colombo Stars scored 163/5 from their 20 overs. Dinesh Chandimal made 49 runs off 40 balls at a strike-rate of 122.50.

Chasing the target, Jaffna’s openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Avishka Fernando put together 49 runs during the first four overs.

However, the match suddenly became a thriller as Jaffna fell from 128/2 to 154/7 as Colombo’s bowlers applied pressure.

Eventually, Jaffna Kings won by two wickets and secured their third consecutive LPL title.

LPL 2023: B-Love Kandy (Winner), Dambulla Aura (Runner-up)

The LPL 2023 final was played on August 20 at the R. Premadasa International Cricket Stadium in Colombo. Dambulla batted first and posted 147/4, with Dhananjaya de Silva playing an important role in the innings.

Kandy, however, kept their composure. Regular captain Wanindu Hasaranga was unavailable because of a hamstring injury, so Angelo Mathews took charge of the side.

Mathews played a calm finishing role and made an unbeaten 25 from 21 balls, and B-Love Kandy won by five wickets.

LPL 2024: Jaffna Kings (Winner), Galle Marvels (Runner-up)

The 2024 final was played on July 21 at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. Galle Marvels batted first and set Jaffna a target of 185 runs.

For Galle, Tim Seifert and Bhanuka Rajapaksa played important innings. Seifert scored 47 from 37 balls, while Rajapaksa smashed 82 off only 34 balls.

The chase then turned into a one-sided contest. Pathum Nissanka was dismissed for a golden duck on the first ball, but Rilee Rossouw quickly took control.

Rossouw scored a magnificent unbeaten 106 off 53 balls, and Kusal Mendis supported him with an unbeaten 72 from 40 balls.

LPL 2026: Galle Gallants (Winner), Jaffna Kings (Runner-up)

The LPL 2026 final brought a new champion. Galle Gallants defeated Jaffna Kings by five wickets on 8 August at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo to win their maiden LPL title.

Jaffna struggled with the bat and were bowled out for just 123 runs. Kamil Mishara was their top scorer and made 41 from 32 balls. Chamindu Wickramasinghe added 25 from 16 balls, but the rest of the batting lineup could not build a strong total.

Galle's chase did not begin perfectly as Sam Harper fell in the first over. Tom Rogers then steadied the innings with 34 from 27 balls. 

However, Dasun Shanaka and Sahan Arachchige kept their composure and completed the chase. Galle Gallants reached the target with five wickets in hand.
