Bangladesh thrashed Australia in the first Test match in Darwin, and Australia returned the favour in the second game of the series as the hosts decimated the Tigers to level the series on Sunday. In a not-so-surprising turn of events, the match ended inside two days as the home team won a one-sided contest.

Interestingly, it was the fifth shortest Test match (least balls taken to win a Test), as Australia made light work of the visitors to strengthen their position in the WTC points table.

Keeping the Australia vs Bangladesh match in focus, we take a look at the least balls taken to win a Test match.

5) 315 balls - AUS v BAN, AUS Won (Mackay, 2026)*

The Australia vs Bangladesh second Test match didn’t live up to the hype as the game ended in under 2 days and it turned out to be the fifth shortest Test match in history (just 315 balls taken).

Bangladesh batted first and got bundled out for a paltry 64 as Mitchell Starc ran riot and broke several records. In reply, the Australian batters struggled and were knocked over for just 210, with Shoriful Islam creating history.

The Tigers were expected to produce a better batting performance in the second innings, but the Asian side were all out for 95 as Australia won the game by an innings and 51 runs.

4) 312 balls - IND v BAN, IND Won (Kanpur, 2024)

Bangladesh once again made the cut, and this time, the Indian side thrashed them to win the Test match in Kanpur in 2024.

In a rain-curtailed hampered, Bangladesh batted first and scored 233 runs, In reply, the Indian side played an attacking brand of cricket as the team scored 285/9 inside 35 overs and declared their innings.

The visitors got bundled out for 146 as India chased down the target of 95 without breaking a sweat.

3) 300 balls - SA v ZIM, SA Won (Capetown, 2005)

South Africa and Zimbabwe collided in a Test match in Cape Town in 2005, and the hosts dominated the proceedings as the Zimbabwean side batted first and scored just 54 runs, and the Proteas pacers ran riot.

In reply, the South African side posted 340/3 inside 50 overs, with Graeme Smith and AB De Villiers scoring at a rapid pace. Zimbabwe crumbled under pressure in their second innings and got knocked over for 265 runs as South Africa won by an innings and 21 runs.

2) 281 balls - SA v IND, IND Won (Capetown, 2024)

In the India vs South Africa Cape Town Test match, the hosts batted first and faced Mohammed Siraj’s wrath as the Indian pacer picked up 6 wickets and South Africa got all out for 55 runs.

In reply, India got bundled out for just 153 runs, with Virat Kohli the top scorer (46). Dean Elgar played one of his finest knocks in the second innings (106 off 103), and India were set a target of 79, which the visitors attained by losing just 3 wickets.

1) 276 balls - WI v ENG, ENG Won (Bridgetown, 1935)

The fewest number of deliveries taken to complete a Test match happened in 1935 when England defeated the West Indies in Bridgetown. The hosts batted first and got all out for 102. England was expected to score big, but the visitors crumbled before they declared the innings at 81/7.

In reply, the Windies lost 6 wickets for 51 runs as they, too, declared their innings. England in the fourth innings needed 73 runs, and they barely crossed the line, winning by just 4 wickets.
