As per recent reports, the apex body of cricket in Pakistan, the PCB, is discussing the possibility of bringing the tournament forward to January next year - a move that would also negate its recent head-on collisions with the Indian Premier League.The suggestion is understood to have come forth from Walee Technologies, the owners of one of the eight PSL franchises, RawalpindiZ and also holds the PSL’s broadcasting rights in Pakistan until 2029.Why does the Pakistan Cricket Board want to shift PSL to the January window?The primary concern is reportedly commercial. It is important to keep in mind that there’s another reason hidden behind the decision.Since the inaugural edition in 2016, the Pakistan Super League was held in the February-March window until 2024. However, the recent two seasons took place in the April-May window, clashing directly with the IPL’s schedule.The IPL overlap has created several problems for PSL; one of the biggest is player availability.Because of its stature, the IPL attracts a large pool of overseas players. Thus, by the start of the Pakistan Super League, the PSL franchises are left with the players who essentially failed to secure an IPL contract. For the unversed, PSL 2026 saw a number of last-minute withdrawals, with players choosing the richest franchise T20 league in the world, the IPL, in return for a far more lucrative contract. That would also resolve the problem of player availability.That said, in this article, let’s explore three PSL-banned players who could see a lift in their punishment if the decision to move PSL in an early window gets a green flag.1) Blessing MuzarabaniOne of the standout bowlers of the T20 World Cup 2026, Blessing Muzarabani was expected to join Islamabad United as a replacement player. However, he chose to participate in IPL 2026 after Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) offered him a contract to replace Mustafizur Rahman.As a result, the PCB handed him a two-year PSL ban, the harshest sanction the board has ever imposed on a player for withdrawing from the PSL. In his defence, Muzarabani stated he did not sign an official contract with Islamabad United to play in the league.Mohsin Naqvi's PCB admitted that no formal contract was signed, but maintained that the ban was justified as he had a verbal agreement with the team.Thus, in his case, the PCB could consider lifting the ban, since he had not officially signed the PSL contract. Thus, he was not legally bound anyway.2) Dasun Shanaka Earlier this year, Sri Lankan all-rounder Dasun Shanaka was banned by the PCB for one season, PSL 2027. The board found that Shanaka breached his agreement with Lahore Qalandars (for an approximate amount of ₹25 lakh) by opting out of the tournament.Shanaka was offered an INR 2 Crore contract with the Rajasthan Royals as Sam Curran’s replacement, and thus chose IPL 2026 instead.Thus, now that Mohsin Naqvi's PCB is considering reviewing a permanent calendar shift, it may also look into the direction of granting Dasun Shanaka the eligibility to participate in the next season.3) Corbin BoschIn 2025, the PCB handed South African all-rounder Corbin Bosch a one-year ban. In PSL 2025, Bosch was a diamond category pick for Peshawar Zalmi. However, he withdrew from the tournament to join the Mumbai Indians (MI) in IPL 2025 as a replacement for Lizaad Williams.The move did not go well with the PCB, which served him a legal notice for breach of contract.
