Adam Zampa, Australia’s best spinner in the last decade or beyond, made a new Big Bash League (BBL) record on Wednesday. The development happened after the 34-year-old agreed to join Hobart Hurricanes for at least the next two BBL editions.
During the previous BBL 2025/26, Hobart had two overseas spin-bowling options in Rishad Hossain and Rehan Ahmed. This time around, they rely on Australia’s most trustworthy spin bowling option available with Zampa’s signing.
Zampa Joins 5th BBL Team In Stunning Career Move
Previously, Zampa played for Melbourne Stars, Adelaide Strikers and Sydney Thunder before moving to Melbourne Renegades. Hobart will be his fifth BBL home, and with that, he made history.
Before Zampa, there were only three players who had played for five BBL teams. They are Dan Christian, Chris Jordan and Josh Lalor. Also, there was no player who had played for more BBL teams than five.
Thus, Zampa’s switch to Hobart made him a record-equalling BBL player in terms of playing for them.

Zampa will join his Australian teammates Tim David, Nathan Ellis and Beau Webster, among others, in Hobart Hurricanes’ squad for BBL 2026/27.
For those who are unaware, BBL 2026/27 will get underway on December 12 and will go until January 26.
Zampa Reveals What Made Hobart Hurricanes Switch Easy
Sharing his thoughts on his move, Zampa made it clear that it was an easy decision for him to join Hobart Hurricanes for BBL 2026/27.
There, Zampa mentioned that his success rate would get increased while bowling alongside Ellis, Riley Meredith and others, and hence, he had no second thoughts before deciding to join them.
"In terms of walking onto the cricket field and having clarity in your role, I think Hobart was an easy decision as opposed to some of the other options where I wasn't completely sure as to how it would play out," Zampa said in a statement.
"I think I made a decision going to a team where I think I'll probably get more success. We will go well and I think it will help me get wickets too. When you know you've got Riley Meredith bowling down one end, Nathan Ellis down the other... it helps with your own personal success as well," he added.
When Did Adam Zampa Join Melbourne Renegades?
Zampa moved from Melbourne Stars to Melbourne Renegades in 2023. He was traded to Renegades, with Sam Harper going in the opposite direction.
Across three seasons, Zampa picked up 24 wickets for the Renegades, in 22 matches. Safe to say, his overall stint there was well below his lofty expectations.
In total, Zampa has 138 BBL wickets in 121 matches in the competition, having made his debut there back in 2012/13. His best season came in 2019/20, when he took 20 wickets in 12 matches for Melbourne Stars with an economy rate of 7.20.
