Prasidh Krishna and Rohit Sharma (Source: AFP)
Prasidh Krishna and Rohit Sharma etched their names into the record books during the third and final ODI against Afghanistan at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on June 20.
The Indian duo achieved one of the rarest feats in ODI cricket when Rohit Sharma caught the first three Afghanistan wickets when Prasidh Krishna was bowling.
The match heavily tilted in India's favour as Prasidh Krishna ran through the Afghan top order, leaving the visitors struggling at 36/4.
In doing so, Prasidh and Rohit became only the fourth bowler-fielder combination in ODI history to account for the first three wickets of an innings.
In this article, let's take a look at four times when the same bowler and fielder combined for the first three wickets in an ODI innings.

First Three Wickets in an ODI Innings by the Same Bowler–Fielder Combination:
1. Douglas Hondo and Alistair Campbell vs India, Colombo (2002)
The first recorded instance came during the ICC Champions Trophy match between Zimbabwe and India at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo on September 14, 2002.
Zimbabwe pacer Douglas Hondo produced a dream opening spell and repeatedly found the edge of the bat. Standing at slip, Alistair Campbell safely completed three catches to help Zimbabwe destroy India’s top order.
The first wicket was Sourav Ganguly, who scored 13 runs before edging a delivery to Campbell. A few balls later, Dinesh Mongia departed for a duck in exactly the same fashion.
Sachin Tendulkar then became the third victim after scoring seven runs, again caught by Campbell off Hondo's bowling.
2. Alzarri Joseph and Shai Hope vs England, The Oval (2017)
The same incident occurred again during the fourth ODI between England and West Indies at The Oval on September 27, 2017.
West Indies fast bowler Alzarri Joseph was outstanding on the day and eventually finished with his maiden five-wicket haul in ODI cricket. Wicketkeeper Shai Hope played a major role behind the stumps by taking several catches.

3. Saurabh Netravalkar and Smit Patel vs UAE, Windhoek (2024)
The third instance came during an ICC Cricket World Cup League 2 match between the United States and the United Arab Emirates in Windhoek, Namibia, on September 24, 2024.
USA left-arm pacer Saurabh Netravalkar struck early and consistently troubled the UAE batters. Behind the stumps, wicketkeeper Smit Patel ensured that every opportunity was converted.
Aryansh Sharma was the first batter to fall after scoring 11 runs. UAE captain Muhammad Waseem followed shortly after scoring 12 runs, while Vishnu Sukumaran became the third victim after making seven runs.
All three dismissals were identical, caught by Smit Patel and bowled by Saurabh Netravalkar.
4. Prasidh Krishna and Rohit Sharma vs Afghanistan, Chennai (2026)
The latest addition to the list came during the third ODI between India and Afghanistan in Chennai.
After Afghanistan captain Hashmatullah Shahidi elected to bat first, Prasidh Krishna produced a sensational opening spell.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz was the first to depart after giving a catch to Rohit Sharma. Soon after, Ibrahim Zadran fell for 11 runs, again caught by Rohit off Prasidh's bowling.
Rahmat Shah became the third wicket after scoring 5 runs, with Rohit taking yet another catch.
