ODI cricket has seen many Indian bowlers go through tough days, where batters dominated from the start and piled on runs. Those difficult outings have resulted in some of the most expensive bowling figures by Indian players.

With flat pitches, shorter boundaries, and aggressive batting, bowlers often find it hard to control the scoring rate. Even some of India's top bowlers have had off days and ended up conceding plenty of runs.

Gurnoor Brar has now joined this unwanted list after an expensive spell against England in the third ODI of the three match series at Lord's. On that occasion, here is a look at the Indian bowlers who have conceded the most runs in an ODI innings.

5) Yuzvendra Chahal - 89 Runs vs Australia, 2020 (Sydney)

Yuzvendra Chahal occupies the fifth spot on this unwanted list after conceding 89 runs in his 10-over spell against Australia in the first ODI of India's 2020 tour. Australia won the toss, chose to bat first, and piled up 374 runs.

Steve Smith's century was the highlight of Australia's dominant batting display as India's bowlers struggled throughout the innings. Chahal managed just one wicket while giving away 89 runs, making it one of the most expensive bowling spells by an Indian in ODI history.

4) Bhuvneshwar Kumar - 92 Runs vs New Zealand, 2017 (Kanpur)

Bhuvneshwar Kumar sits fourth on this unwanted list after conceding 92 runs in his 10-over spell against New Zealand in the third ODI at Kanpur in 2017. India batted first after being asked to and posted a challenging total of 337 runs.

New Zealand responded with an aggressive batting display and took on Bhuvneshwar throughout the innings. Although he picked up one wicket, he finished with figures of 1/92. Despite his expensive spell, India held their nerve to secure a thrilling six-run victory.

3) Gurnoor Brar - 97 Runs vs England, 2026 (Lord's)*

Gurnoor Brar is the latest entrant on the list of Indian bowlers with most runs conceded in an ODI innings. Gurnoor gave 97 runs in his 10-over spell against England in the third and final ODI at Lord's. Just six matches into his ODI career, Gurnoor endured one of the toughest outings of his young international journey.

England won the toss and posted a massive 387 on the board, putting the Indian bowlers under constant pressure. Gurnoor had the most difficult day among them, finishing with figures of 0/97 from his 10 overs, the third-most expensive spell by an Indian bowler in ODI history.

2) Vinay Kumar - 102 Runs vs Australia, 2013 (Bengaluru)

The second-most expensive bowling spell by an Indian in ODI history belongs to Vinay Kumar, who leaked 102 runs in nine overs against Australia in the seventh ODI of the memorable seven-match series in Bengaluru in 2013. India had piled up 383, thanks to Rohit Sharma's iconic double century.

Australia responded with an aggressive chase and came close to pulling off a remarkable win, putting the Indian bowlers under immense pressure. Vinay endured the toughest outing, finishing with figures of 1/102, a record that stood as India's most expensive ODI spell back then. 

1) Bhuvneshwar Kumar - 106 Runs vs South Africa, 2015 (Mumbai)

The most expensive bowling spell by an Indian in ODI history belongs to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, who conceded 106 runs in his 10 overs against South Africa in the fifth and deciding ODI of the series at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. South Africa batted first and scored a massive 438 runs.

The visitors dominated the Indian bowling attack throughout the innings, with Bhuvneshwar enduring a particularly difficult outing. Although he picked up one wicket, he finished with figures of 1/106, which still remains the most expensive spell by an Indian bowler in ODI history. India eventually lost the match and the five-match series.
